24' CC I/O almost completed
3 Attachment(s)
Here are a few pictures of the 24' CC I/O. It's gooing to be powered by a 3.0 litre 135HP Mercruiser. Coens expecting a 45mph top speed. This isn't being built for speed, more in line with fishing and family fun.
We just have to mock up an engine cover, which will have a leaning post incorporated into it. |
post some picks with the other console side by side so we can vote !! Like that means anything to John !
|
Bob and I were thinking the same thing. LOL
|
I seriously doubt your going to see 45mph, more like 35 maybe...
|
why on earth would you make that boat ?
just my 2 cents |
Is this boat sold?
I like it, but I think it sould have a 260HP or 300HP small block V8. No way a 24' boat is going to go 45mph with a 135HP I/O. |
I like it too. Outboard on a bracket would be nice.
As far as why build a boat like this? To each there own. Keep the pictures coming. |

What size engine could you fit under the console and run a jackshaft? would this poorly effect the COG?
It'd be nice to open up the cockpit. |
I'm surprised there's interest in a cc fishing boat with an I/O configuration in the stern vs under the console running with a jackshaft or better yet, an outboard.
Love the port side pic... Superboat lines are classic! |
I think its a good move to get into the fishing world. I believe the performance world has taken a major hit this year. Like stocks you dont want all you eggs in one basket.

Superboat (and John Coen) should be complimented for offering a truly "custom" boat, and options as such.
If the boat's speed is 45mph, or if it turns out to be less, neither should matter so long as the boat is what the customer wanted. There are a lot of boat companies that limit one's choice in motor packages and ultimately can limit what a potential customer can afford. Honestly, from; package cost, to reliability, to ease/cost of maintenance, and to fuel savings...the 3.0L/Alpha Pkg cannot be beat. (Gas on the water in Palm Beach averages $4.15/gal). Not to mention with that 24 hull, the customer will be able to do 35-45mph through anything!?! |

A 4.3L V-6 or 5.0L V-8 would not burn much more fuel, if any, cruising at 35-40mph. I like the boat a lot and it would also be great with a bracket and 200HP outboard. So Rick, are you going to have time this winter to build a 24' for yourself? |
whats going on with the 34CC, thats been in the works for 3 or more years?

I don't really care for the way my boat rides at 40 MPH. I think the 24 hull really comes alive at 50-55 MPH.
I think this new CC is going to be a different animal than ours though. The hull is going to be a bit lighter and the balance different as well. And, with that 4 banger vs. a BBC she is not going to be as stern heavy. I hope it works out well for both the owner and for Superboat. I think there is a market for a fast 24' CC. I can't wait to see the new FX version...:D |
Where are the updated pics?

Here are a few pictures of the CC with the Millenium console. Which console looks better in it ?

Millenium console looks perfect. What does the old man think?
Is the deck a reproduction from the original? More pics are always appreciated. |

FX,
The Millenium console looks to be an intricate piece to build. I can picture a Murphy bed that folds out of the front of the console. LOL! Not very far fetched as Mastercraft has a lounge incorporated in their new CC. I have a question about the picture in Post #20. What are the two strips (behind the what looks like blue 3M tape) coming down the hull interior? Is it a point to attach the fuel line cover piece? JC's idea to keep costs down is plausible. Looking forward to pictures of the finished product. RLW |
RLW, yes the two strips are to fasten the enclosure for the fuel line and vent.
|
Just wondering how did this build end? Any finished pics? and what was WOT speed.

Did the guy buy a Supercharger for it yet?:cool-smiley-027: |
There was no hurry on that boat. It was for Coens daughter Bridgett. The orders came in for the 2 Y2K CC's, and the 24 was put on hold for a little while.
Aside from that 24, we're making another 24 CC. This one's an outboard. Hull and deck are layed up. almost ready to put the stringers in. I'll get some pics up as soon as I can. |
Rick, any pictures of the finished boat, Jr. said it runs great and they take it to Fire Island every weekend and it runs 48-52?
|
Eddy,
I really haven't seen it upclose since it was finished. Coen took it over to his shop to finish it. Jr. is blowing alittle smoke up your arse about the speed though. I heard between 43-46. Even though. Thats pretty impressive for a 4 banger IO. And the fuel economy is incredible. |
I'll try to get a chance to check it out next week, I may be in the market for a CC soon.

Yeah Pat, it's sold. If you want one with a smallblock we could do that also.

What would it run approx without the step bottom? Im thinking of doing the same thing with Pats old Superboat. and a 140hp merc/Alpha setup we have laying around.

nope.
I own it.. (pic below) It will never be integrally safe as a 70+mph sport boat (not that it ever was but thats already been hashed over more than enough already) but it should make hell of a nice 40mph openfish for the lake. Something to get me on the water when I am working on my boat not to mention when fuel gets too expensive! The plan is too use the existing engine hatch and rear seat and put the center console in front of what used to be the rear seat. Should give it a good cg and leave plenty of open room . I was thinking the 140 Merc would give me 35-40mph and your info helps that assumption. We will be adding some weight to the front to fix and reinforce the damaged areas but the removal of some of the deck should balance that out. I spent last summer tooling around in a 28mph 17 mako while I was working on my own boat and found I had almost as much fun at the party coves as I do on my boat. Not to mention I can put one hell of a stereo on a 24 openfish. :) [email protected] |
Boy that picture makes me sad, but if you can build a CC that would be great.
The step hull vs streight hull Super is less than a 2mph difference at over 70mph. I doubt it would make any difference at 40. It's all about the weight with these 24' hulls. A 24' Super is almost 5 mph faster than a 24' Pantera because of the weight. Believe me, I owned them both. |
Trust me it wasnt my boat to begin with and I felt bad
about scrapping it. I really thought one of the waterside places would want it to advertise on but no one really got into that idea. I talked it over with a few people incuding my cousin from the old Carrera and they all think it will be fine for this usage. Not to mention unique! It will probably be winter when I start the fiberglass part of it because its over 100deg this time of year but we will start mocking up engine/drive stuff. Need to make front mount for the 4 cyl. Ill keep you posted :) |
