Nothing new to report.
Steve will be running prop tests this week. When he figures out the right wheel size, he will order the props and then run fuel measurements for me. I've given him this fuel matrics chart for him to fill out. I need to know the Verado fuel consumption numbers and more importantly, the MPG at each 200rpm step starting from 800rpm. This is to help determine what the longest trip-leg would be for the SAW34. |
Noli- push them hard...maybe we get a double Superboat Launching next weeked:coolcowboy:
|
it's gonna be delayed a little bit Sean.
After the install of the engines, she goes to Don Frost Interiors After DF interiors she goes to CMI electronics After that she goes to Canada: which is when I start my SAW trip :) |
My bad Sean, yes I think SAW34 will launch this week!
It depends on how busy Steve is with other commitments. She will launch to start and complete the prop testing. I don't think I will be there as Steve will be busy water testing to locate the correct prop. Once that selection is complete and they think they have the right prop, they will call me down for the boat operation training. |

<Engine install status>
The engine install is complete. I've decided not to run the engines until the interior is complete. <interior status> Now I'm working with Jim over at PPI in Florida to get the interior goin' Remember, the interior is still just a fiberglass shell. The first bolster will be coming in next week. It's a stand up bolster and it's not finished. It will look sth like this, just foam covered: |
The stand up bolster is arriving with just the foam covering and the stainless base so that I can have the bolster fitted.
It will be fitted for my height and my size :grinser010: yikes! When the height and the width has been determined, it will be sent back to PPI. PPI will send up to OO two bolsters. Those will be installed and then we start the rear bench. The rear bench will be modelled with foam core for size and comfort. That model will be sent to PPI. And they will work off of the model and build the rear bench. After the interior is complete, SAW will be sent to CMI for the electronics installation. slowly but surely... |
woops, all this info and I haven't answered your question Gary, I doubt SAW34 will splash this summer. If anything, in the Fall perhaps.

yes Gary, the Fall is a nice time of the year to be boating :)
SAW is taking longer to build up, but that's half the fun for me. I like to do things right. My previous 2000 Superboat was a 24. I don't know who did the seats, but they were not comfy after a couple of hours of hard driving. I remember looking at the seats after a hard and long run and what I was sitting on was just the plywood or whatever material it was. the cushions "disappeared" :grinser010: Then after waiting 2 minutes, the cushions sprung back to normal... "what da...!" I must've been too heavy for the cushions....buhahahaha ...and I was leaning on the bolster seats more than sitting in them... My next interior has to be a full seat...not a 6" x 18" "support" And I'd like the cushions to keep it's form and not disappear. |
Makes no sense to me. But hen again I'm only the dumb fiberglass guy. You should have been boating before all of us. 7 months to hang a pair if motors and do the rigging. Glad we don't use them. Right Lightspeed?
|
I told Ocean Outboard I don't have a lot of money so I told Drew @Ocean to take his time in the rigging...and he followed my request.
I also told JC to take his time on building SAW34 and he did just that as well. But Ocean Outboard can install a tripple Verado in less than 7 to 14 days...turnkey I bet Superboat Inc. can also build my 34 in 2 to 3 months, but it took 18 months. Why? That's because I asked JC to take his time on it. here's a simple formula: best_products + quick_install = $$$$ here's my formula: best_products + slow_install + allow_Noli_to_save_his_dimes = $$$$ AS you can see it's the same number of $$$$, it costs the same! But what I owe the bank is less because spreading out the payments to Ocean over time allowed me to put away some cash for the twin 300 Verados :) You guys can do this too...try it !!! For example: Say you want to buy a $20,000 boat. The bank will only give you $10,000 Where will the other $10,000 come from? I say borrow the 10K from the bank. The banks will luv ya because they will use the $20K value of the boat as collateral to a 10K loan. Ask the builder to take his time in building the boat, say 12 months Do the math: you have to put away $833 per month: $10,000 / 12 = $833 So at the end of 12 months, you give the boat dealer 10K loan + the 10K you saved up. Try it! And in this economy, builders have plenty of time in their hands :grinser010: right Rick |
I spoke to Jeff from FreezeFrame.Awesome guy.
He has the camera rigging for boats down to a science. I was thinking of recording the places and the waters that SAW34 will be in during my travels. Jeff has a lot of experience in recording from a fixed camera install, with the hardware all self contained. No need to tap into your boats' battery supply :) |

went to Sarasota, Fl today and got the order in at PPI for the two front bolsters. Jim is awesome! Spent a few hours getting fitted for me and my son's bolsters. We also selected the colours and the material finish(carbon finish). Jim really takes his time to get the order 100% right:

Here are some PPI logos.
Chances are that PPI has the logo for your speed boat. They are building one for the Superboat Inc. logo for us. I am having the one built with the two checkered flags and the "Superboat with red, white and blue background" I will post a pic when the logo leaves production. PPI sends out to third party companies the logo designing and colouring. |
