have you had much HP boating experience??? most people that step up to a cat have owned and operated for a signifigant amount of time a 90+ MPH V bottom......you really need to think long and hard about the switch to a 120+ MPH CAT without some signifigatnt experience behing the wheel of a fast V bottom......schools are great but there is NOTHING like experience when it comes to REALLY KNOWING HOW TO DRIVE.......
we all have the speed itch but we all do it in steps and slowly graduate in about 10mph increments......trust me when i say that a 90mph 34ft V and a 120+MPH 32ft cat is a huge diference in handling.... you should finish the 34 and run it for a year or 2 and once you have MASTERED it then graduate to a faster smaller CAT.... My Opinion having Rigged, Piloted, worked on and owned both types of boats.... Well said George. Take it step by step-- 10 to 15mph increases. I started with a 65mph boat, moved up to 80mph and now 90. There's a big big difference and I don't quite think you realize the numbers you're throwing out.....120mph in a skater:eek::eek::eek: |
I may have missed it but what type of lay-up on the 34 ? Vinylester or Epoxy ?

Rick, I drew a black line on the pic of my 34. I've used the black line to point to a piece of horizontal support. What will this be used for? I've been looking at the 34 outboard pics on the company's website and it seems that the sunpad can be run to the end of this support. Is that what that support is used for, to extend the sunpad?

Sean and Gary :),
I'm just gonna say that the public decides whether the boat stays or goes. If it's sold then SAW will have to wait. If she doesn't get sold, I am still continuing the build as if I'm gonna go to far and distant places putting as much of the best stuff as I possibly can. I'm coming to a realization that I need two boats: SB34 and Skater32 :grinser010: That is almost impossible since the pockets are not that deep. An update on the 34. These are what I believe have been installed:
I will have pics in 2 weeks. noli |

That is what that customer wanted. If you look at the picture closely Noli, you will see that he can't even trim his motors up. But..... It's what the customer wanted. That edge is part of the support of the engine compartment hatch . It cant be removed. If you want a sunpad, let Coen know. Your boat was built as a " Purpos Built" boat. It was built to go across the Atlantic with very few creature comforts.
I'll call JC when the time comes. noli |
Another question Rick, if I were to extend the sunpad, will there be a fiberglass base that need to be built? This piece would have to extend from port to stbd and be supported by these two edges(support structures). When the base is in place, it would have to be leveled with the hatch.
...and especially with a guy like me, will there be a support in the middle of the base to prevent buckling? Is there a mold for this yet? noli |
I wonder if the sunpad could be notched out directly in front of the motors? I think it would still look ok and have enough room to lounge around on... another thing to consider is how much setback will the motor have? That will also add some clearance to allow for trimming up... just a couple of thoughts.

I would love to see other Superboat owners do the crossing also.
Dangit if they could do it in a 21 foot bay boat how about the rest of the SB clan. I say part of the 40th celebration is to have 5 SB owners cross the Atlantic. And it's safer in bigger numbers. When I was planning to do this, redundancy were in my thoughts: double radios, doubel GPS, double engines. Take Sean's 30CC for instance. He's half way to getting his boat built not just for speed but also for effeciency in making the crossing. He's got double engines already. Another radio would not cost too much. One nice GPS chartplotter is all he would need. Now you may ask about the fuel...well he's got plenty of space for a fuel bladder cell. Just look at all the space he's got upfront and the good thing is, when he's done, just remove the fuel cell. Look at the attached pic and tell me he if he doesn't have enough space for fuel? if a 21 foot bay boat can do it, so can a 30CC with twin 250's ! When Sean gets to Europe lay it up for the winter, then the following year fly back to the 30CC and continue the voyage! ...30CC Around the World... Sean were your ancestors Seafaring people? It's no accident that you love the ocean. :) My grand parents and great grands were fishermen! |

noli, whats going on with your 34', what are your plans, sell, complete the hull, round the world, do tell !!!!:grinser010:

The 34 is in good hands at Ocean.
Steve has the controls in and most of the instruments. We're waiting on the engines. I haven't been able to go there and take pics because I hate driving the pickup...to LI Soon I will post some pics. Still selling her....so my SAW trip will be on-hold :) SAW = Superboat/Skater Around the World noli |

Some updates on the 34. Steve has completed the install of the steering system, controls, instruments, battery switches, and automatic battery charging loaders.
Here are the instruments. The strengths of the SC gauges come into play during the night. On those long overnite passage runs, when one man is running the 34 and the other is snoozing, you want gauges that can be read accurately at a glance. |

Shes getting there Noli. Whats the hold up with the motors?
|
Noli- dont those pics make you want to keep her :grinser010:

Yes it does. I want to keep the 34. When I saw the 34 over the weekend, I said I gotta keep her. Went thru so much effort to completing the build and rigging selection, and the kids like the 34 as well.
You'll notice that she's made for longer extended trips. The hardware does not have the same bling as those found on the boats of the speed-gods that OSO cater to. But that was my intention. Instead of the constant throttling that one does on hi speed boats, I'll be interfacing more with the fine adjustments of the Engine Control Pad. I am still hoping to launch her for that long voyage North then east to Europe. |

Ocean is on the waiting list for delivery of 7 (300HP) Verados. |
Noli, what warranty comes with those?
|
There is a promotion going on right now.Total coverage is 5 years.
Rick I will need your help once more. I have contacted JC about this as well. I will need the upholstery done after the 34 is completed by Ocean. In addition, you remember that big tank in the cabin? Now that the hoses and wiring for the sending unit has been installed, I'm afraid that someone might trip over it and knock out the signal to the fuel gauge. What I'd like to have done is a fiberglass hood that will cover just the exposed hoses and electricals. JC's thoughts were to have the 34 brought back to the factory and while the templates are being made for the coaming pads, etc. to try and have this hood cover made :) |
Noli- glad to hear you are keeping her!
|
Gary that was funny. You deleted a message because it was "wrong info"? Buhahahahahaha :) :) LOL
