jcap 08-28-2008 08:22 AM

alive and kicking

Reports of my death have been highly exagerated!

Hey all, Its been a long time since i have been on here, my health was very shaky for awhile. I was given the "get your affairs in order" speech several times, but after a few surgeries, chemo, radation and lots of other BS I am still here:ernaehrung004:

and dam I missed alot, Pat not a superboater? (glad ya safe) lots of big hp 30s around dam the JESSIEJAMES was the big dog for awhile now it seems just a nasty little mutt.
She is running well, I dream of racing again but my health has recovered better than my finances (uninsured cancer sucks) I was talking about a surface drive (rik arneson) years ago and I see people talking about it again. And maybe my grand kids will see that turbine Y2K run, dam I wish theyd get it fired up.
Trips! was great to see you and the better half! Patrick I do plan on making the Conn. river run, keep me informed when they start planing.

Sad Sad story in patchogue, but they did go doing what they loved. GODSPEED

My son has posted a few videos from the onboard cam, nothing like bashes productions but he is just learning.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ddlf5hptu4U

Pat McPherson 08-28-2008 11:56 AM

Hey Jim,
It's great to hear from you. It’s great that your heath has improved! Cancer is though but can be beat as you are proving. My step dad is in a battle now but doing a lot better these days too.
Yes, I bought a 26'/280 Velocity without power and transferd the engine and drive over from my Superboat wreck. You never know, I may just own another Super some day as I did love the last one.
As soon as I know more about the CT River Run, I'll post info. I have not check in on Scream & Fly for a while. Hopefully you can convoy up with Mike and Eric again this year. We won't let Eric do the parking this time though...LOL
Talk to ya,

Superbabi 08-28-2008 04:46 PM

Jim, glad to hear your good news with regards to your health !!! Your video is great, I really like the way the prop loads and unloads. Stay well, and great to see you posting again !!!! Gary

JackL 08-28-2008 05:49 PM

Video looks great. God bless stay well.

FX10 08-29-2008 08:25 AM

JIm, glad to see your feeling good. And I have to say, that is one of the best videos I have ever seen of a Y2K. I love the way the camera is mounted high. Much better view.
Cancer is a tough one. Had Lymphatic cancer myself when I was a kid. Started when I was 9, and came back when I was 16. I haven't had a problem since. And I'm pushing 50 now. Keep the faith.

jcap 08-29-2008 08:34 AM

Hey Ric,
I will come visit you, I hope to do some glass work this winter and ill talk to jc about some prices, and im still thinking (dreaming)of a arneson. I know many have doubts but I think it could be the ticket to going triple digits without HUGE horsepower.
I hav tons of great video I will post more when i get around to it
That angle was possible by strapping my son to the bow

LOL Did you through bolt him to the deck.
Jim, I'll take care of all your glass needs. Not to worry.

jcap 08-29-2008 09:06 AM

Velcro body suit borrowed from my friend David Letterman

Actually I have several cams mounted onboard. I design and build hi resoulotion video equipment for harsh industrial and government installations. I do some traffic cams on State highways as well as on lighthouses and commercial shipping( just installed an amazing system on a water tower in South Hampton can see to the connectiut river and zoom to see liscense plates on montauk highway). I have done a few installations on pleasure boats as well as a few racers and poker runners. I am trying to market a small system designed for boaters with an onboard DVR that has no moving parts stores to compact flash memory.
As for my glass work I want to eliminate canvas snaps that go around the cockpit ( alot of small holes to be filled) and new rubrail and then not sure to Paint or re-shoot gel ? Whats your opinion?
Jim

z.zuperboat 08-29-2008 09:39 AM

Jim im actualy thinking the same thing. keeping up the gelcoat can be a bit much. Maybe I need to just break down and clear it. Good to have you back on the board. Ct river HMMMM only if its going to be warm.

Superbabi 08-29-2008 10:46 AM

Jim, please refresh my memory. What HP are/were you running at top speed? What drive are you using?

jcap 08-29-2008 11:33 AM

that is a freaking cold run! but thats half the fun

thanks for thinking of me mike! ill probably be out monday if your around id love to see the boat!
Hi Gary, I have had several motors in this hull, a fuel injected hp500 with a procharger supposedly 700 hp i think more like 600 ran mid 80s, an MRD 509 with small blower 90mph on a perfect day, bandit racing (Kurts Marine) 515ci and the current set up is from Wazzup racing(Smitty and son) 515ci blowershop 250 dynoed at around 740hp but i lowered the boost from 6psi to 4psi and changed carb from 1150 dominator to 1050.I always had XR drive but tried several lower , imco standard, shorty sportmaster, I am currently running XR with standard merc lower, p5xhydro and can run 87 88 with 5 adults and a full cooler. And yes i have become very good at rebuilding XRs I have eaten several racing, but as pleasure craft If your gentle they can survive but imo over 600hp they just arent reliable
Your turn! what ya got? prop, drive, hp? whats your mph?

you too mike where you at? prop selection must be a bi..h

Jim, I remember seeing you Y2K at Wazzup a couple of years ago. My Y2K has a 800 EFI N/A Ron Potter motor ( dyoned at 806 ) We have not proped properly as of now. The best we saw was 92-93 on a beat up Herring 30" 5 blade 3 adults and a full tank of gas. We are thinking somewere around 96 mph on a 31" labbed 5 blade Herring. As for the " WEAK LINK " I am using my XR, rebuilt with all parts and a new upper case, put about 36 hours on the rebuilt. Looking to up grade this winter looking at the New Imco SCX ( heard they lose 5-7 mph) Also the Konrad. My most sparked intrest is the new Arneson thats Bravo style prop friendly. I like the A- Drive because of the big HP #s with the drive. And also the fact that the A-Drive may pick up the speed a bit. I'm thinking ata least 100 mph with my motor. What do you think Jim.

Come on Zup you've got those new deflectors.
I checked in over on Scream & Fly and others have been asking about the CT River Run too, but no official word from Rich Owen as of yet.
My best guess is that it will be on October 18th...

H2oscene 08-29-2008 01:29 PM

jcap, Nice video I love the camera position

jcap 08-29-2008 02:23 PM

Dam gary 800 hp and injected your my idol! definetely way out of bravoXR ability! iv heard good things about conrad but i truly believe a surface drive properly set up will work on our hulls. If Mike hit 98 with a speedy dam where is his hp at? that robs a ton of hp

H2o scene your a babylon guy too? if your interested in installing onboard cam and recording equipment let me know. I have been getting lots of requests, I will post some more footage

OK Mike lets hear those dyno numbers!

Jim

My guess is around 900. I know he was over 750 before the intercooler and dyno tune at Zul's...:drink:

[QUOTE=jcap;2668727]Dam gary 800 hp and injected your my idol!

Thanks Jim, but credit must be given to Ron Potter !!!! That motor can make 1000 Hp NA !!!

H2oscene 08-29-2008 05:40 PM

jcap, thanks for the camera mount offer... You run the Jessie James Boat I will keep an eye out... I keep my boat right a lift South of Fosters Creek area... Fly-bys are Loved at this household...

z.zuperboat 08-30-2008 07:13 AM

Ok Jim hears the deal. Zul tuned it on the dyno, I added a good intercooler and the final outcome was about a pick up of 125

jcap 09-08-2008 07:13 PM

I saw the turbine boat

Dam thats some serious horse power mike! should definetely bring you to triple digits.

So I saw the turbine boat today. Skip and his son (MRD)said they are still working out the exhaust stack and the modifications to the hatch to enable it to handle the extreme heat. It is pretty cool looking, Fx did an awsome job of modifying the interior. The drive is definetely impressive hardware but dam prop selection is going to be a nightmare. It seemed like nobody is in a great rush to finish the thing. ey have fired it up but it has not gotten wet and didnt look like its happening soon. Should have put an arneson drive in that thing but just my hmble opinion.

Still havnt started editing video from onboad cams for upload, but i did get some old footage up. Just a short clip from the Atlantic City GranPrix 2002. It was Jessica's first race, a noreaster was just starting and the race had 6 to 8 footers. The camera mount snapped and we lost the cam 3/4 through the race. The drive trip pump bracket tore off the transom and we had no trim control. We came in fourth out of a field of 10, but was so bad out 6 of he 10 boats didnt finish. If my memory is right, Fast Eddy and John Jr came in third and probably lapped us! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tjbAl4Rpuhw

jcap 09-09-2008 05:19 PM

I guess that should have been under the turbine thread

i moved it

jim

z.zuperboat 09-11-2008 06:45 AM

Jim the powers not as much as you would think. The motor was not making what it should have from day 1. And that was my own fault. Skip from MRD built the motor and advised me to dyno it before it went into the boat. I dont remember Y I didnt. But Skip was rite again. Hes always rite.
That turbine is a pretty cool peice.

Pat McPherson 09-23-2008 12:09 PM

Here you go Jim.
