Superboat around Long Island

Has anyone heard of the challenge they are going to do in a 30' CC? Just saw an article about it today in LI Boaters World. Plan is to take a 30' CC with a 300 SF Suzuki and race it around long island. Article said they will top of the tanks, take the boat around LI (about 5-7 hours estimated), then fill the tanks when they get back to see how much gas was used. Article said the goal is to show how a boat can have performance and be economical on gas/green in the process. The starting point will be Aqua Marine.

Sounds like an interesting challenge!

Maybe they could use some 'escort' Superboats along the way

Stormrider 07-07-2009 08:50 PM

Yes, i think Jeff/Feezeframe will be shooting it from a chopper.

elvisali, I know Aqua Marine is a Superboat and a Suzuki dealer. I guess thats why Aqua Marine is the starting point.

Sounds cool!

I can squeeze 5 hours out of a tank but 7 would be tough.

3.5mpg is quite a feet for a 30' boat.
What was the average speed?

I ran out to Block Island this weekend and burned 29gal for 54miles at an average of 42mph. That's double the fuel for a similar size boat.

I run 2.8 - 3.0 mpg all day every day, mostlly WOT. Another reason my fellow boaters hate my Superboat!!
I just smile and wait for them to get fueled up....

That is incredible economy for a 30’ boat with 425HP.

The 425HP/496 is a much more efficient engine than the old 415HP/502. My old 24' Superboat burned about the same as my newer boat with the same engine. Never much more than 2mpg.

Those new Suzuki 4 stokes are great. I know a fellow with one that is 9-10 years old and has never had a problem.

elvisali 08-21-2009 12:21 PM

I got a ride in the 30 CC last weekend, my neighbor has one, and that 300 suzuki was an impressive engine. Thing is silent at idle, it had good power , it got the boat moving real well and the owner was really impressed with the gas consumption he was getting
