Y2K prop testing

ok, let's get started with prop stuff...
casual testing (not using the digital tach readout)

2005 Y2K hull #16
prop: unknown bravo 26P
drive: BRV1X 1.5:1 with spacer (unknown height)

4450rpm/58.6mph

top speed so far 62.5 but I don't know what the RPM was

will do some more organized testing soon

Top speed of 62.5 ??? if i remember, i thought Keith had your Y2K all dialed in at 71-72 with the correct prop.:grinser010:

To be clear I have not done a WOT pass to test for top speed. I'm working my way up to it. Want to be sure I understand how the boat handles before doing that.

Just being safe.

When I ran bravos on my 30 it like box stock bravos the best. Thick with lots of cup.

krakmeup 04-27-2010 09:25 PM

Easily 72 mph. Best ever was 74.1 on GPS, trimmed and a light load. Be sure you have good water then raise those big K-planes up all the way, and hang on...

Prop supplied is what Coen installed and worked best of many I tried, a stock Merc Bravo I, 26P, un-labbed, RH

The best prop I tried was a P5 (or was it called PX-5???), LH, Hydro round ear

The spacer is 1" and made BIG change, for the better - more bow lift (needed) and carried the nose far better at speed.

Will find my prop spreadsheet and post/send it to ya...

Keith-

Thanks for chiming in!

what was good about the P5?
what sort of max RPM am I looking for?
I definitely run with the planes up as much as possible, just drag port to stay level.

Thanks!

krakmeup 04-28-2010 09:32 AM

Merc says max RPM on the 496Mag HO is 5000 rpm w rev limiter @ 5200.

The P5 removed much of the torque steer and came out of the hole very nice, think it added a little mph.

Interesting. Do you remember or have the specs on the P5?

If weather clears up and the logs clear up I will do some 5000rpm runs this weekend.

You want the P5-X which is basically a 5 blade Bravo 1.
