The drive would be part a winter project.... I have a naturally aspriated 598 that I may put in this winter.... Dynoed a little over 700 HP.... and as I said I can get a killer deal on this drive so I would be willing to give up a couple three mph for the reliability.... the whole project is still up in the air though... the boat is running great the way it is & I am reluctant to mess with it... but that HP sitting in the garage is really tempting me!

Gort, do you think the Sportmaster lower will be anymore reliable than your XR lower? I would buy a spare XR and run the snot out of the drive. At 700 HP I would think the drive should hold up fine. I rebuild my XR every year and no problems, and I run 50-75 hours per season. Good luck, keep us posted.

That makes good sense Gary.... Like I said I have a chance to buy this thing really right.... maybe now I know why? I run the boat on a lake & don't really "tax" the drive anyway.... so I have to agree with you the XR will probably last a long time... thanks....

Boat is an '04... currently it has a 496 Mag with a Procharger....3lbs of boost... turns a 30 Bravo one 5000rpms... bumps the rev limiter when its light on fuel.... 80 and a click...

Having a spare drive is a good idea along with that you need someone who can rebuild them . Not your local searay dealer but a good performance shop. 598 GO FOR IT

Is that the old style bottom, Gary?

Also, did Boyd build the 700 motor?
