Bring back the Tempest

Can anyone agree w/me on this subject? 30 Tempest or 30 Y2K? I say TEMPEST!!! Anyone else care to join in?:evilb:

Do you mean just the deck, or the whole design (bottom hull included)? If you just meant the deck, I actually like that tempest design, its a nice old school look, of course JC will tell you ....."yea, everyone tells me that, and no one bought em, then I changed the deck and sold 30 of them"

If you mean the whole hull....no comparison.....the y2k handles and performs better

I agree 100% I like the classic lines of the Tempest. It's to bad they dont offer both. Zuperboats Superboat is one of the nicest boats I have ever seen. New hull, classic old school deck, best of both worlds.

I guess I prefer the old school look of the tempest deck. But, I think the Y2K is more functional. The cabin access, access to the front deck, driver and passenger dash, and built in foot rests.

Engine comp. access is great on the Y2K but I think it could be even better if the back part of the back seat was part of the engine hatch like on the 24's.

Whats funny is that to look at a Y2K you would think that it was designed and built in a multi million dollar facility , and then to see the superboat glass shop and the fact that they are rigged in the garage at JC's house .. Kinda Funny !
No disrespect its not whats on the outside that counts its just not what you would expect if you where spending a 100K on a boat .

The twin canopie look and sleek lines is what drew me to the boat but I think every performance boat guy out there has a special place in his heart for the classic look of the Tempest or an old Cigarette , early Pantera , Sutphen or any of the other greats ..

In the end if you want it and have the money it can still be built !

So I guess what you are saying is John is able to do more with less, which results in lower bottom line for his customers...sounds like a good deal to me :)

The truth of it is that same size boat with the same features built by another builder would cost you twice as much . . .

My vote is NO. I like having the only Tempest around with an I/O and a Y2K bottom. Actually make mine #2 I did forget about ZUL,s boat . Does that count having an Activator bottom ? The outboard tempests dont count either most cant stop the nose from bouncing ever. Except that Specialized boat man that boat runs good, I think those guys must have resin in their veins. And Yes Jeff with the Freeze Frame boat another nice running boat. I would sit their watching the Fever Boyz in that Yellow Manta and uncle Al with the black Mirage Armed and Dangerous saying some day I would own a cool boat like those. Both with ZUL power I mite add. Anyway I know the deck mold is still at the shop in need of some work but more than doable. In this market im sure Superboat will build anything you want !!

1000% I hate the unfunctional canopy design and look. The classic look of the tempest is where its at for me. My ideal boat would be a tempest deck with a y2k bottom and twin 300xs.. ahhhhhh :drink:

Tempest, An Old School Classic. JC at his best !!!
Y2K, The Best Looking V On the Planet.
With its new deck, slick looking canopies and
an integrated swim platform, a true work of art.
JC reinvented himself, as well as, SUPERBOAT Y2K.

Bring your spider over park it in my driveway and come get your new tempest.

I am closing in on a Tempest, sitting in Florida West palm Beach on a lift. Twin 250 Yamaha's very low hours. Just trying to put a fair number on it for myself and the seller. Seller says mid 60's MPH sounds about right. I googled a few and seen someone Lars on S F: 1985 Tempest with 1994 250 Merc was selling for $20K a few years ago not sure if it sold or not.

I was thinking $20K for late 80's Tempest with 2000 250HP Yamahas

z.zuperboat 08-13-2016 07:43 AM

With all its racing history the Tempest is still a very popular boat
