Hey nice boat. I have a '94 I've had it for three years now. It had a 225 Evunrude vindicator but I got tired of re-building it so I put a 2000 mercury 300 pro max x on it. I haven't found a good prop for it yet and I see that you have a 300 on yours also. Can you make any recomendations? What rpm's are you turning and what speeds are you getting? Any information ar sugestions write ar wrong good or bad would be a big help.

Hoser, Dave01,
Nice boats! Those things must be scary fast with 300's. Dave M. |

I AM SPINNING A 25" TROPHY PROP WRITE NOW AT 6500 @ 87.4 MPH BUT THE MOTOR ONLY HAS ABOUT 31/2 HOURS ON IT IM WANTING FOR MY ET WHEEL TO COME. IM LOOKING FOR OVER 90MPH. HOW MUCH SET BACK DO YOU HAVE ON IT? MINE IS 15" TOTAL. |
I have the same jack plate that you have mounted directly on the transom.
|
HOW FAST ARE YOU GOING?
AND WHAT PROP? YOU DO NEED MORE SETBACK. AT LEAST ANOTHER 8" |
Yeah I figure that I need more set back. What kind of a set back plate are you running it looks like a good one. I'm not geting the speeds that you are. With a 26 quicksilver chopper I got approx 84 mph @ 5500 rpm but the boat was a total dog in the mid range. With a mazco re4 that is re worked to a 27 I ran 80 mph @5600rpm but the boat ran great in the mid range and out of the hole. I have a 27 DAH omc raker that ran really well on the 225 evinrude but it is hubed for omc and it won't fit on my merc correctly. I've tryed a mirage and a bravo 4 blade and they were terrible at best. So rite now I don't know what to do with it because I have tryed a number of props and pitches and I have not gotten the results that I think it is capeable of running. I think my next move is to try a couple of smaller pitched props tro try and get the rpms up and to add set back. Now im in the peocess of installing a gps spedo and a digital tach so I will have some more accurate numbers to work with. One more thing with the 225 evinrude it ran mid 70's @ 6200rpm with the DAH prop and the motor was not stock it had porting heads etc.etc..

Just bought a Pro Max 300 and I am going to try a 25 Trophy for my first prop.
I have 12" of setback. With a DAH 24 Chopper and my Pro Max 225 it ran mostly 70 but highest speed was 74.5 Hoping for mid 80s with the 300. |
DAVE01 - I've got the prop for you.... & a pair of setback plates to try.... just ask Jim for them! Are going to tow your boat down to LI Sept 14th for the SUPERBOAT get together with me? Glad to see your on the board.... See you up at the lake soon hopefully... again stop by & try that Chopper! Gary H.
|
Hey Gary, The mazco that I tryed was Jim's prophe said that he has another chopper that I can try. I will ask him about the setback plates.
Thanks Dave |
DAVE01 - I'll bring the setbacks up to the lake this week.... I'm hoping to get my boat in this week FINALLY....

Yeah its a good idea to get the setback established before settleing on a prop.
That new 300 looks good you should be able to run mid 80's. |
Post 21 Superboa pics please!!!!
Hey guys
As you may know, I just hung a 300 on my 21 and I had to leave for vacation in Germany before I had a chance to try it out. As you can imagine, I am jonesing, and I need help to get through this. Germany is not exactly the place to see hotboats. Please post some pics. Hoser, I am counting on you. P.S. I would particularly like to see a pic of one with a 300 sitting in the water. I'm wondering how much lower it sits in the back with the extra 100 lbs. P.S.S. Regarding that 27 OMC SRX. Why cant you get that thing to fit, the splines should be the same, just can't use the safety. I would really like to know how and SRX does with a 300, cause I love SRX props, they are so versatile. I got a 25 Trophy, but I just feel it's not going to be the one. I have a hard time believing the best prop is a 4 blade through hub even though Joe Imprescia swears by them. Thanks Mike |

The OMC splines are the same but the hub is different. Its alot deeper in the prop so when it is on the propshaft the torpedo part of the prop rubs on the gearcase before that the thrust washer hits the hub. The omc propshaft is a little longer. I think I remember seeing an ad for someone who could re hub the omc prop to fit the merc but i have no idea who can do it. Can anyone help?
|
Did you try a different thrust washer
I ran an SRX on my 225 Pro Max for years. I think I was using an OMC thrust washer too.
|
I thought I've seen it done before but my raker just won't fit right on any merc. I uesd the thrust washer from my 225 evinrude but I didn't try any other omc thrust washers. What hapins is this. When I get the prop posisitioned right only a little bit of the splines engage and the threds on the end of the shaft are too short to get a nut on all of the way. My motor has the sport master case but I've tryed the raker on a regular case and it still won't fit.
|
Disappointed again
Geez, don't Superboat owners have computers? Where's my pictures?

I DONT HAVE ANY WITH THE MERC YEAT BUT WILL THESE HELP?
|
Thanks Hoser
But you are not in trouble for not posting pictures. Where are all these guys that are coming to the Superboat Gathering in Sept. I want to see their boats. Are you, me and Dave the only ones lurking on the Superboat threads???
Hey I think I am going to satisfy my boating urges next week. My father in law knows a local German Policeman, and since I am a cop, he is going to get me in on a ride along with the German Boat Police on the Elbe River next week. Also going to rent a motorcyle next week to get some of the need for speed out of my veins. |

Hey Hoser
Hey Bill,
I don't have your email address here in Germany. I return on Wednesday, I have to do some final rigging, and I plan to come to Long Island on Thursday. Have you tried any other props? Do you think the four blade is the best? I am thinking about picking up a chopper to try also, what size chopper should I try a 26? Did you ever try that Lightning ET? I'll give you a call Wed, maybe we can get together on the GSB. |

No top speed runs yet, first day was rough seas over by Democrat, and the second day the GPS batteries were dead. It's like night and day from the 2.5 though. Can't figure out why my warning alarm keeps sounding. It gives me four long beeps with unexpected intervals. Sometimes it won't do it for 10 minutes, sometimes it does it every five minutes or less. It smokes and I ran it for two days, so it's getting oil, the oil tank is full, water pressure is 6 psi idle speed and 10 to 15 at higher speeds, and temp is 140 or less. Everything seems fine, what's up with the alarm????
|
Alarm
If it was my 300 Johnson that would probaly be a fuel restriction alarm. You might want to check your fuel filters and/or look for cracked or pinched hoses. good luck

I was out @ jones beach inlet on thursday after noon
what a great time i had. that was something that i wouldnt of done with the v-8 was going about 40mph over these waves that were nice low rollers. Went as far as the rockaways about 1/2 mile of the shore what a blast :D |
