Nice boat, not bad on the price either, but is that really an optimax?? Big diff. between an opti and an EFI, that sure looks like an EFI cowling, but could be correct for the year.

GEORGE YURICK 07-18-2012 09:09 PM

Buyer beware.....I did a pre purchase on this thing as a favor to a guy on screamandfly about 4 years ago when it had a 200 on it....Boat protographs well but in person its rough to say the least....has ALOT of issues and a wet transom and stringers along with a section of the forward deck where water has gotten into the balsa and totally rotted it away...the better part of the cored areas on this thing pegged my moisture meter......I have pics and video if anyone is really interested....

noli 07-19-2012 05:15 AM

.

The deck and transom can be fixed.

besides the deck and transom, what other parts of the hull showed moisture?

and are the stringers ok?

.

GEORGE YURICK 07-19-2012 06:03 AM

Seriously Noli?

Re Read what i wrote and You will find the answers to all of your questions....

and FYI yeas the deck and transom can be fixed but at what price? Hmm lets see....by the time your done even IF the deck and transom were the only problem areas on this boat {and there not) your looking at a sevral thousand dollar repair on a boat thats worth next to nothing ony to have a freshly repaired transom and deck on a boat that is basically junk....

here are a few pictures from my inspection....If you need a better explanation than these pictures i dont know what to tell u.....

I am all for superboat and people buying old supers that are in good shape but this one is Crap....

maybe for a cheap beach boat with a 200 for getting across the bay but anything more and this thing is a dangerous....

rchevelle71 07-19-2012 06:19 AM

How the heck did it get so wet, looks worse than my 1981 Pantera before I redid it, what year is this boat?

scarab63 07-19-2012 08:03 AM

Looks like they went on and repowered since then............

ZP'd 07-19-2012 08:07 AM

Man that is a total cap off restoration project and worse then a Checkmate I did a few winters ago.
Not worth any more then what the motor and trailer value is considering the amount of work involved in mkaing it right.

noli 07-19-2012 02:45 PM

.

Wow!

The whole boat's gotta be re-gutted

I would cut the deck off

then ask Rick how deep to slice the inside surface skin, and begin restoration.

If I were to do it, I'd rebuild using hi-density foam instead of balsa, then vacuum bag the whole hull

as for the transom, I would use kokum wood (not sure of spelling), a very dense wood that can handle lots of compression.

like he said, I'd just be buyin' the motor, rigging, and trailer.

Thanks for sharing the pics with the meter GY!

Rough crowd in here... Its like this, for the comment that "after the repairs you still have a boat worth nothing" These boats ain't coming back guys... Unfortunetly if you want a nice vintage ANYTHING you either pay the piper, and buy one for an absurd amount, thats been restored, (and hope its been done right) Or you buy one like this, and restore/rebuild yourself.. No don't get me twisted. I DO NOT know the buyer or the boat. Yes, 12k seems high for what it is, and I, myself would not pay that much, but it is what it is... Back in the early eighties when I was messing with cars, I thought $1500 was a little high for a then sort of rough 68 camaro less motor.. Now a clapped out six cylinder none ss first gen camaro rotted out from azzhole to appetitie will run you 5k+ for a pile of ****, if you can even find one for that! Hell even less disirable bodys like malibus, novas, and montes going for stupid numbers even in this economy.. Why?? Because there not going to be around forever and there for sure not coming back!! Now to compare workable first gen camaros to how many first gen 24 Superboats (72-86) are still around?? Apples to oranges becuase there really were not that many in the first place.. So the question is how bad do you want a bad-azz vintage hot rod boat?? Hell, you can buy a new 24 Pantera for maybe 70K?? Maybe dropping $7500 in a wet hull with a decent motor isn't that bad an idea for those willing to put in a lot of hardwork and shop correctly, hopefully when your said and done break-even. Like I said, these boats and others like it form the 70's and 80's aint coming back!! Either put the work in fellas or bust out a tall stack of big heads!

JSnell909 07-19-2012 09:35 PM

I currently own this boat, you guys are right, its a piece of crap. I put it on CL just for the hell of it and I did mistakenly put optimax in the ad. I'm hoping to hit the lottery like the guy who sold it to the previous owner, if that doesn't happen the hull is going to the landfill and I'll put the motor on another hull. The boat is cracked all over, the rigging is junk, and the bow is all delaminated. I can't see how it would be worth it to restore.
It looks good from 50' away but when you look close its all junk like the pictures show.

George,
What can you tell me about the boats history? It seems like someone put some money into it in the last 10 years. The guy I bought it from only owned for a couple of months and didn't know anything about it.

c_deezy 07-19-2012 11:51 PM

???? So you aren't disclosing the issues to people that come to look at it? Or you are just hoping somebody will buy it despite the issues for close to what you are asking?

I'm hoping somebody will buy it despite the issues, I'm not holding my breath for anything close to my asking price. If I don't sell it its no skin off my back since I'm still using it and the motor alone is worth what I paid for it

I think I've been pretty honest with everybody who has responded to the craigslist ad... when I first went and looked at it I drove all the way to Long Island and was so disappointed with its condition I didn't even make an offer on it. It was a wasted trip, and I don't want that to happen to someone else

I have no idea, some idiot previous owner must have left it uncovered or something, maybe it sank

I'll let you know, I will definitely save any usable parts. I will hopefully find another SB hull. In that case I will hold onto the parts, otherwise I'll sell them

Can anybody tell me how to quote from multiple posts in one reply?

Why not just adjust the asking price to what it is actually worth? What year is the motor? Is it a 250EFI? BTW, here is my 24 Pantera with 250EFI, getting a STR300 in a week or so:evilb:

GEORGE YURICK 07-20-2012 08:50 PM

my guess would be the hull was damaged on the port side bow just forward of the cabin bulkhead by either a storm or an accident and then sank....it looks to have had a pretty major repair up in that area and the only way to get some of the areas wet like the cabin sole are for the boat to be submerged.....

RobF 07-21-2012 02:12 PM

that meter looks familiar

krisx125 08-01-2012 05:03 PM

Everything except the motor and the trailer, and I might have to steal the oil reservoir out of it. Come take a look at it, I'm around most week nights.

What kind of shape is the interior in? Ours needs an interior. Again, I don't want to waste your time.

JSnell909 05-15-2013 09:13 PM

The vinyl is in good shape for the most part, there is one small bar on the back seat where it has split. I believe most of the wood in the seats is water logged and may be rotten. Last time I ran the boat it was extremely rough in Boston Harbor and the bolsters ripped out of the boat but they're still intact and look good. My number is 774-274-0459.
