I bet it could be bought for 2k. Looks like a good project.

I didn't chip in, but we bought it and are re-doing it. I'll post some photos when I get organized.

To update this thread: We've pulled the Superboat off its trailer and stripped the (junk) interior. We also cut out the bottom of the deck to replace the junk core. The motor runs and everything appears to work. It's currently getting painted. Hopefully we'll have it back together by the spring and we'll see some of you out there!

The guy who sold it to us built the motor that's in it and included his build sheet (details below). Three questions: How much power are we looking at, how fast will this run and will reversion be an issue with the standard Merc exhaust currently installed? It has a TRS drive, transmission and nose cone.

Motor:
-355 SBC
-Forged/balanced bottom end, "pink" rods
I think it's about 8.5:1 compression, but he wasn't 100% sure.
-Dart (Sportsman) II heads, 72/200cc; roller rockers
-Comp Cams Magnum 280 cam (I believe .525" lift and 280 deg. duration)
-Victor Jr. intake, Holley 750 carb

Cool boat. Digging the bright red! Hope to see it this summer.
What waters do you run?

400 HP range and should be around 57-60 MPH ... Small blocks can make some numbers on the HP side but the lack in the torque side . Should weigh around 3700lbs with a small block / TRS and thats a lot of boat for a SBC .....

Add that 8:71 blower in the swap shop. It's complete for sbc for $2700
That'd get it going:evilb:

We generally run out of Falmouth harbor and we'll cruise pretty much anywhere. My thought was exactly that: to throw a blower on there at some point since it's got a forged bottom end. I think we'll get it together and run it as-is for the first season before looking into power upgrades. It'll need hydro steering and maybe a Bravo conversion if we end up keeping it.

Just out of curiosity, would this boat be faster with a 385 hp BBC? We have two sitting here that were going to go in our Sutphen but have yet to do so. I'm thinking that with the TRS drive we'd need 600-650 hp to get to 80-85. Is my math right?

575 HP Big block will get you 80mph with the TRS and 85 with a bravo . In the long run the BBC will be so much cheeper then trying to build a big power small block .
