Hydraulic steering
I have a single ram hydraulic steering set up on my boat and am moving up in the higher speed numbers. I should be running between 90 and 95mph this year. Is the single ram setup safe for these speed or do I need to add another ram? I have my wife and friends in the boat quiet often and would be devastated if anyone got hurt in my boat. I do not run balls out with a full boat but still want to feel safe at speed. Thoughts?

Sounds like you already know the answer. Steering is truly a case of More is Better! The amount of torque on a single ram in a single 30 is tremendous. That $1500-2000 your gonna spend is just a fracture of what a failure could cost. If nothing else do it for piece of mind....

i didn't know if a single ram steering set up is only rated for up to a certain speed. Not sure if my speeds are exceeding what it is rated for. Just trying to find out. it is in the back of my mind when i am running hard because i am uneducated in this department.

I agree. No such thing as overkill with steering.
Anything bigger than a 21ft at speeds over 80 needs dual full hydraulic, imho. |
