Thoughts on a y2k wiht triple OB?
 

Hey Superboat guys,

Just thought I would get your opinions on a y2k with triple 300hp outboards. Pros/cons & speeds you think it could reach? Plus I do not think SB ever build a closed bow y2k with outboards, right?

I think that boat is a tad bit small to fit 3 300's. I think the beam is 7'. Plus I don't know if the boat could take that weight. Another thing, don't the y2k's have a integrated swim platform? Might have to modify the transom to install a bracket. By the way, are we talking new or used? If new I am sure they will build what you want.

Were taking new, and its not that I have the means to buy new. If figured the thread was low on action. I've always liked the 24x7 and have seen older 30' SB with twins. But I guess you bring up a point with the beam being 7'.

I think if you could get it to work it would be crazy fast but I agree with above that it's probably not the right hull for it. I think I remember reading that the Y2k's are only a few hundred pounds more than a 24 Superboat and also remember reading a few people say that 24/7's with twins were a handful. I would think it would be an easier conversion to try it on a Tempest since they have the flat transom.....not sure if any of them were ever triples?

I think the molded swim platform is a separate part on theY2k (correct me if I'm wrong) as the 30/31 center consoles have a flat transom. I looked at a 24' with twin and seller said it ran high 70's and was a handful like you stated. Ok so maybe twins on a y2k then?

They did build a tempest years ago with triple 2.5s. Think it was called Hammer Time if my memory is correct. John has also built a Y2K with twins, Don't remember how the transom was done though. The 2.5,s are narrow so they worked. The new motors I believe are to wide to install 3 across !!

I believe those old 2.4's and 2.5's would have been a tight fit......very tight. Any new power, xs's, etec's, hpdi's are much wider than those old engines. Triple xs's barely fit on a 8'6" beam. What you have to remember is where the outside engines mount the engines might end up too low in the water. If I am correct, those hulls have a step and a notch so the engines will have to be mounted really high. Might even have to use 15" mids on the outsides to get it work. Plus, remember a 3 liter weighs 517lbs motor alone, Not adding wingplates, steering rams, oil tanks, tie bars, and the stout bracket that can handle all of that weight. If it were me I would just slap on a pair of 300xs'sand be done with it. With that hull you should be in the 80's with that power.

There was also a triple engine30' Tempest raceboat, I believe it was the first Extractor,

i had a triple engine 30 with johnsons 2.6 it was the centerfold c-13 race boat motors were tight

What hp were the 2.6's? What did it run?
