Calling all 30 owners
 

Doing some research on x dim and set ups , I know this is a loaded question but im looking for honest top speed #s with engine size ,hp ,prop,and if you know your x dim , anyone hav a shorty drive or ext box?
And yes hear are my tru #s
30y2k step hull new deck,hp500 with pro charger not really sure of hp,32 lefty prop,1.5 bravo xr with an imco lower (not a shorty)
85mph gps 5100rpm
Im not happy with these numbers and i am making changes to the engine and considering an extension box,I scrapped the procharger and went with a blowershop 250 I have heard similiar stories about poor top end on newer 30s .The boat that was in the shop and for sale for the last two years( i think a blue and yellow stripe?) was one that had a 750 hp blower motor and john claimed ran 100 ,I have heard never ran faster than mid eighties
Zuperboat, is your boat a step hull with an old style deck? Did it come from a freshwater lake ? I think I heard a great story about your boat! what is your set up ? do you hav an extension box?

EVERY TIME I USE SPELL CHECK I GET LOGGED OFF Lets try this again. 30 tempest y2k bottom/9 inch transom step/ 12 inch imco box/ 2 inch shorty drive/propshaft 2 inches below the bottom. drive gear is 1.36 prop 26 bravo rpm 5500 gpsed last year at 85 but did go 87 with a 28 chopper the bravo is at mercury for some more rpm looking to turn 57-5800

your running as fast as me and i hav a few hundred more hp ! my motor goes back in next week and MRD is tweaking , Im not looking for too much speed just yet, I am racing OPA p4 and cant go over 80 in that class anyway, looks like peconic is gonna be my new throttleman! the first race is june 1 and we wont be ready yet but probably the second race of the season ans we will be ready
Zup how does she handle? and is she slow out of the hole? anybody else out there with a newer 30?

Ive heard the step bottom boats over 90mph have a tendency to get lite in the but end and spinout. This was told to me by a friend at ocean outboard.If you guys need any help at all dont hesitate to ask.[ WILLWORK 4 FOOD ] tHE BOAT HANDLES LIKE ON RAILS.My first 4 blade went on the morning of the hot toddy run and Ill never go back to a 3 blade

ZZ, did your boat come off Lake Conroe in Texas just north of Houston?
My dad lives on that lake.
He was talking to a couple of buddies of his that are in the TOPS (Texas Offshore...) club. Anyway, he told them that I just bought a Superboat. They are still talking about your Superboat, if it's the one, that set the off-shore speed record on that lake a few years ago. Is the record over 100??

I did get the boat out of Texas. I sent the guy a deposit and drove down the following week with my wife who at the time was 7 months preg. She had never driven a trailer before but she,s a fast learner.I closed my eyes and she was passing tractor trailers at 90 .Anyway this boat was in hotboat and the article said the boat runs in the upper 90,s so turn up the boost use cam2 and and who knows.

I think theirs a new sheriff in town.I here MRD has johns 2001 30 with the blue and yellow stripe in for a real motor. That boat ran 100 with an MRD 750,SO I heard.Maybe Jcap can fill us in. I still think the nicest and fastest superboat 30 has to be the one owned by Ritchie ZUL. That boat is early 80,s and its mint.Im sure tripps knows the boat. Just think ZUPERFEST

not the same boat...the one at falcon is a ProCharged HP500. No Zul or MRD power...

how's the boat coming? I'm gonna stop down tomorrow...

Hey Zup, heres the story i hear on your boat, skip from MRD said his son test ran your boat , the first with the step hull but the new deck wasnt ready, it had a blown 540 and ran close to triple digits the first pass , they were amazed how fast it ran and weighed it and it was bareley 4400 lbs fully loaded, the next new 30 they tested was the boat with the blu and yellow stripe and it never ran higher than mid eighties with a similiar blown 540 (i know john claimed it ran high 90s),why it ran slower is a mystery but they didnt get a chance to weigh that one, and yes that boat is at mrd and is getting a blower motor , I have heard about the boat with the funky paint at falcon but nobody seems to know how fast it ran.Zuppers boat seems to be the only new hull that ran close to triples that I know about.That was why i started this thread, I wanted to hear more , My new blower motor went in this week but hasnt been fired up yet

Maybe Richie Zul will show up at Superfest and show us how his Old Boat with all his power :eek: :eek: will do against some of the newer Superboats,I know he was invited last year ,but!!!
Anyway,anybody see the potential for some great _acing? Thats about 5 30s that go over 90!!! We will have to get a trophy for the Fastest Superboat!!! Run what you brung??? Blue bottle anybody?? Lets have some FUN bring them out,will we have more than last year?? hope so, tripps

Sounds like we should bolt a blower on your 540 for Zuperfest.
I have a question, were there many single engine I/O 30s built before ZZ's 1999/2000? I have only seen 30s with outboards and one race-boat, I think a 1995.

Jcap: Eddie Simmons repowered with a Vortec HP3 this year. F1 regs set strict limits on boat weight. Also, no futzing around whatsoever. A F1 does low 80s, that's it. There is no such thing as a blown F1. The only blown engines in F1 are the ones that are busted.

Sean: New ride is supposed to be ready next week. That's when I'll be back from Europe. It's good to see your pictures of Falcon, waking up after a long & hard winter. Makes me homesick.

I wasnt suggesting a blown f1 just a blown stepped 30 superboat, a blower in an f1 would really be a trick! they cant even get away with playin with ecm's anymore! when is your new toy gettin wet? engine is in mine and they say i might be wet this weekend! better polish your helmet ! you might be the JessieJames racing team navigater June 1st! the second throttle station wont be ready but if the boat is , we are there!

Yes there were quite a few i/o 30's but before zup none were stepped hulls, there were a few rigged with twin small blocks and the were rockets!! John doesnt give numbers but i dont think there are many 30y2ks out there.

Sorry I havn't checked this section in a long time. What dyno #'s are you getting with that motor. How does your numbers fit in the formula, someone help me here, You need to be turning alot more rpms, what is the rev limeter set at? I do not know abought the Imco drive but the new Sport master lower is slowing my boat at least 3.5mph It doesn't allow the bow to rise. I would think if you could turn that 32 55 to 5600 that should put you around 90. If you can get your hands on a 2" shorty it may help, Im now running a 2" shorty but spacing 1 1/2" down if I have a chance I'll remove the spacer to see what happens. call me and I'll tell you what I thank. 804-677-2715

I have thought of a shorty, but i have heard that the bow wont rise on the 30y2k with a shorty, x dim has to be low , prop deep in the water rises the bow, my motor was supposedly dynoed at about 715, but i dont know how tru it was and also dont know where the limiter was set, I have repowered with an MRD 509 with a blowershop250 and dominator 1050 it dynoes at a solid 725 with 5 psi .It should be finished this week,then i can start testing with numbers i know to be solid, it might be overpropped at 32.I will let you know when i test run.I hope to be racing june 1st in the OPA race in Brick NJ.

JACAP YOU NEED TO SPIN THAT MOTOR AT 5600 LIKE FASTEDDIE SAID IT MADE A DIFFERENCE FOR ME.MY BOAT WENT SLOWER WITH A 28 AT 5200 THAN WITH A 26 AT 5500

Jim, I know nothing about blower motors but one thing I've notice is that most run the 1:36 gears but with these new big props you may not need to change.

If Im not running my boat and anyone needs a driver or some one on the sticks for OPA let me know. I have helmets and intercom, if nothing else I'll be there to help superboat guys with set up if you need help.

Thanks for the offer , but it looks like my boat will not be ready for brick , I will be there but not racing, motor is in but still not complete and it looks like my throttleman (Bertel AKA peconic) and I will be spectators. I would like to pick your brain over a beer, hope to see ya there.

Okay the latest on the boat with the blue and yellow stripe: 540with a small blower ,about 740 hp,ran 88 with 31p bravo 1 standard bravo xr 1.5 .His x dim is very low , I am going to try a 2 inch shorty on mine.
and no mine is still not running yet!!
