21' legend question
Hi guys,
Iam wondering if anyone hear could answer some questions about a project boat I have been thinking about. I have found a 1986 21' legend currently rigged with an outboard. I would like to restore it and set it up with a built 502bbc (650-675hp) and an ARNESON surface drive. I know superboat built these boats with I/O set ups also but where they the same lay-up used for the hull, stringers and transom? I know I will have to rework the transom and engine bulkhead/top deck area to switch to I/O but need to know if the stringers need any more beef to them. And from your experience with this size boat what are the handling characteristics of it at high and moderate speeds? thanx for any input, ps-if its not broken your not playing with it hard enough................. |
Re: 21' legend question
SD,
You have a major project om your hands I work for John at SUPERBOAT. First off, the layup is the same in both models. The stringers in the rear are doubled up though. You have a problem though. You have to have the transom sistered in, and a hatch made. Are you sure you don't want the 21' we have in the showroom ready to be rigged ? Rick |

Re: 21' legend question
thanx rick,
I didnt expect to strike it so lucky and actually have an employee from superboat answer my question. I planned on the transom work and due to my "custom plans" I plan on building a new top deck/engine hatch anyways. I will turn this into a closed canopy style boat. I just really wanted to be sure about the hull layup and stringer design. It sounds like I can sister on to the rear stringers to get the proper thickness for the bbc conversion. Whats your personal opinion on the hulls design/balance when set up I/O? I know these boats seem to be impressive with outboards but Iam looking for kind of an exotic mini toy. Iam not interested in a bigger boat (already own a new fountain) I just want to build a safe scary fast exotic little toy so I get that on the edge feel that my larger boat can no longer give me anymore. |
Re: 21' legend question
PS
We still have the mold for the closed race conopy cockpit. I won't be able to get you any pics for a few days. I have to go to North Carolina in a hour. Dads very ill. I'll get you some pics when I get back. We might even have the mold for the rear engine. Rick |
