Rob.. I used the Garmin 172c in mine which I like. I do find at speed a larger unit would be better.

Rob I checked out the 492 on line, looks like the way to go, a few hundred more than the 172 C, ???????

492 Should do you just fine. The 498 comes with the depth sounder. I have just the digital depthfinder on my dash.... Thats all I need. Reads thru the bottom. Make sure Rick cuts thru the balsa core to mount the transducer. Unless just idling around the depthfinder is useless anyway.
