Rick, Where were you!!!
Damn, can't a guy be a little late nowadays? I fly nearly 3000 miles and no Rick! Anyway John was great and I really enjoyed talking to him. I'm sure he filled you in on my plans. I really don't want to buy the base 375hp motor and turn around to sell it when I take delivery of the boat. It looks as I may do that however. I'm gonna start working with my local friends who build engines to see what I can come up with for my budget. I'm wondering if the 496 accessories ( alt., ps. ect..) will bolt to a 502 based block. 540 and a whipple is still my destination. :drink:

Re: Rick, Where were you!!!
As far as I know, it's a plain 496. Hull was completed last week. Bob has to complete the cockpit trim, then it's all Johns boat from there.

Re: Rick, Where were you!!!
Rick,
No you did'nt see my wife on monday. I would have been lookin for you if I made it back. I called John and told him we were having to much fun in Manhatten to get back over before my flight. We had a hotel on Broadway and must have done everything there is to do. I think I need new shoes now. Not used to the walking every where you go. |
Re: Rick, Where were you!!!

Re: Rick, Where were you!!!
Baja, I have not put a deposit as of today. It may happen on monday. I have two houses in escrow, so I've been waiting to make sure everything flies before takin money out of the bank. As I said earlier, I want to have my engine figured out before putting things on paper anyway.
My wife was lookin at the 34, but I want the Y2K so i can run a single and I like the 30 better. Besides the 34 is alot more money. Ya, everything is a little expensive on Manhattan, exept the comedy shows. |

|
Re: Rick, Where were you!!!
No order yet. I'm talking with Arizona Speed and Marine and Whipple industries trying to put something together as we speak.
|
Re: Rick, Where were you!!!
Tom,,,why Not Order Just Hull From Superboat. Do The Rest Back Home. Gary
|
Re: Rick, Where were you!!!
Buy her with a stock 496 and run it for a year.
Then when the warranty is up, add 100HP with that Raylar Big Power Kit. Or go Whipple and add 200HP... :D |
Re: Rick, Where were you!!!
Gary,
Because I want to don't want to miss half the summer next year rigging. I missed almost all of 04 because I sold my boat. Then Business got in the way. NOT AGAIN!!! Pat, I sold my 103 mph American Offshore in April. There's no way I can slow down that much untill the warrant expires. Maybe 80's min. but if I'm going to do that I might as well do it all now. Tom |
Re: Rick, Where were you!!!
Oh Boy... Are you looking to go 100+ Tom?
I don't know that anyone is or has gone 100 in a 30 Super? Jcap has cracked 90 with around 700HP and ZZ's boat ran high 90s with 750 ponies. I guess you will need over 800HP to get one of these single engine V bottoms past the century mark... What drive are you planning to bolt your 540 blower motor to? Jcap keeps blowing XRs and ZZ switched to a Speedmaster IV after two Imco Bravos. Should be a fun project... :drink: |
Re: Rick, Where were you!!!
Tom, 496ho. 72-74 ? Stock. Thats What I Did. Next Year The Bump!!!!!!!!!superboat No Dealer Markup....the Only Way To Buy. Save 25 30% .tom Just Do It......gary
|
Re: Rick, Where were you!!!
JUST DO IT!!! That's funny.
Patrick, I ran a custom XR on my A/O with no problems at 750hp, no problems. Now remember this was in the lake so I only got airborn several times not constantly. I do plan on doing the ocean now so maybe I will experience some problems. I can't beleive they were waisting the Imco drives. They usually stand up to alot. My goal is to be 90's so 7-800hp is about right. This does'nt mean I plan on running like crazy all the time, I just like to be able to play when the challenge comes around. On my Offshore I cruised at 45- 50mph to prolong the life of the powertrain. What do you think this Y2k will handle like in the 90's? Tom |
Re: Rick, Where were you!!!
Hi Tom,
I have not ever been in any boat that goes 90+ but I'm hoping for a ride with Jcap or ZZ this coming summer. Jcap would be the best source as he races his boat at 90mph... Fasteddie would also have some great info for you; he races F1 in the low 80s... Good Luck! |
Re: Rick, Where were you!!!
Pat,
"Media Master" a 30 Tempest did in the ballpark of 105mph. Rick |
Re: Rick, Where were you!!!
And what kind of drive did Media master have? Yes it was a #5. X dimension ? Even with the bottom. Type of bottom ? Y2K . RPM range ? Im sure not 5500.More like 7000.

Re: Rick, Where were you!!!
It's all good howerver he does it. But the more info people provide the more better off we all are in our quest for speed.
Decissions decissions. I'm still woking on my engine package. GT marine says he will completely rig the boat with a naturally asperated 650hp engine, gimble and Imco or Teage drive for $38000. Not where I want to be yet but close. I'm still trying to get a rigging price from Whipple and Arizona Speed and marine for the 496mag completely beefed up supercharged with 700+ hp, but I think it's gonna be about the same as the GT marine engine. |
Re: Rick, Where were you!!!
Hey Faster,
From what I have read and heard, the 496 base engine is only good for about 600HP. Cast crank, cast pistons,... If your goal is more than 600HP then go with a 502 or 540 from the start. MRD is right around the corner from Superboat. They can build you anything you want. There are alot of good engine builders in these parts. Then JC can rig it for you at the factory and the rest of us could get a chance to drool all over it... :p Talk to Jcap; He is running a 650-700HP/509cube MRD blower motor hooked to an XR drive. If you are not going to race it like Jcap does, then the XR should hold up. And I would hope less than 38K... :D Zuperboat and tripps can also hook you up with other good engine builders on LI. |
Re: Rick, Where were you!!!
Some of the locals are running 557,s with PSI blower and making over 1000hp on pump gas.MRD has the old media master boat in the shop now and that motor makes over 1300.MRD could rig the entire boat for you.Any superboat that went fast went thru there shop.Skip at MRD has been very good to me with parts and knowledge and I would recommend them highly.

Re: Rick, Where were you!!!
That's great guys. I'll contact them. The concern I have is not being able to see the guy who built my engine when i have problems. My good friend had problems in the past when we were out of town and the head gasket blew and the shop he had to take it to so we save the weekend talks bad about the engine and wants to do more than fix the problem because he says it's not done the way he would do it. We're talkin big $$ here. I hope you understand what I'm talking about. Every good builder has his own ways of extracting HP from an engine.
