Re: Extension Boxes and Set Backs
Jcap,,, Thank You, For Your Wisdom With Y2k And Answer About Set Back, Ext Box, 7", 12" I'm Just About Done With The Box's. Guy's I Think I'm Calling Jc To Put My Boat Together 600 Hp & One Xr Drive. Done. Time To Enjoy The Boat And Stop Thinking AbOUT A Extra Mph Or Two.....................

Re: Extension Boxes and Set Backs
Baja;
THats what I was telling you in the PM. Quite alot to do about nothing it seems when ya get down to it |
Re: Extension Boxes and Set Backs
Baja, JUST-DO-IT! :D
Maybe your right. Most boats run and handle alot better with the box. And if you got 3-6 mph it would be a good investment of $1700. But here I see too much variation in set up so lets move on and turn up the boost or something to get more speed. |
Re: Extension Boxes and Set Backs
TOM. 3 - 6 MPH FOR 1700. I DON'T THINK THAT COULD HAPPEN. EVERY ONE WOULD DO IT. JCAP SAID IT JOHN HAS BEEN SAYING THAT ALSO. NO ONE CAN BE SURE WHAT WOULD BE GAINED. JOHN WILL CHECK OUT ONE LAST OPTION FOR ME. OTHERWISE "OVER FOR ME".

Re: Extension Boxes and Set Backs
Hope its not one of them new Volvos that pull instead of push...
|
Re: Extension Boxes and Set Backs
Baja, I've see it time and time again out here. Close friends that installed Imco box and got enough leverage to use just a little trim so the prop is pushing forward instead of trying to lift the bow also. Easy 3-5mph increase.
The reason why most people don't do it is because it's an afterthought and too much trouble with the insallation and trial to get it right. However I think I'm in the same shoe as you. We're getting too much negative info. |
Re: Extension Boxes and Set Backs
Gary,
Mainly, it's a pain in the ass to install the 4 point mounts. In my opinion, it's worth it. I agree with Tom. |
Re: Extension Boxes and Set Backs
So BajaGary, your still thinking of an Imco box?
|
Re: Extension Boxes and Set Backs
This Is It. No Stellings........not To Keen On Merc, Its........no Big " A " Drive..........what's Left ??? 2 Choices... Yes The Imco. But That Does Involve Re Do On The Transom...........last And Very Possible The Most Logical, Just Install What We Have.
|
Re: Extension Boxes and Set Backs
Why the redo on the transom with the Imco? Going with the 3" rise?
|
Re: Extension Boxes and Set Backs
Tom, my thoughts as well with the Imco
|
Re: Extension Boxes and Set Backs
Imco itm is !!!!!
|
Re: Extension Boxes and Set Backs
IF JOHN GETS ALL INFO AND #'S ON IMCO AND STEERING I"ll MAKE A DECISION. YES...........ASAP
|
Re: Extension Boxes and Set Backs
Sorry FASTER I missed your question on prop shaft measurement, do we still need it? I can run to the boat and do that easily.....
All these threads to keep up with, wow! Other OSO'ers are talking about how much posting is being done on this site!! Gary - it sounds like you are near a decision, I'm watching patiently to see where you land, as I am considering many types of options for other power next year, good luck! You'll be splashing before you know it!! |
Re: Extension Boxes and Set Backs
Krak, The next time your by the boat I'll take a measurement. Might be interesting.
Thanks Tom |
Re: Extension Boxes and Set Backs
OK- got out to the boat today and did some work.
Best I could measure with the drive down and prop level the prop shaft sits 3.5" below the pad........ |

The prop shaft is about 5" below the V on my boat. I think Dave M. measured 6.5" below on his step/pad 24'. I guess the notched transom on the 30 Y2K allows for the higher X dim. But we know that professor jcap added a 2" spacer which I would assume put the prop 5.5" below... :drink: |
Re: Extension Boxes and Set Backs
Here we go again.
I run my propshaft between 2 1/2" & 3" below. I cant see what it matters if its an O/B or I/O. Any higher I go I lose speed...any lower the steering starts to get "trucky". :) I think KRAK'S setup is right on. :D |
Re: Extension Boxes and Set Backs
Aye, and I like it too.
Happy St Pat's Day!! |

As we have discussed before, My boat is VARY different than yours... If you look at the slip numbers for the way my boat is rigged, it is also pretty good. I know she's slower than yours, but 67mph @ 4600rpm with a 26p looks OK to me... :drink: We'll see how she does with another 100HP... :D |

Re: Extension Boxes and Set Backs
Gary, John says you are not going with any set back also? I told him to cut the hole just like Krak's. At least we know he's running good for a 496HO.
|
Re: Extension Boxes and Set Backs
I still like the ITS with the 12".
