Sutphen Gossip

So I'm watching Offshore Racing on the boob-tube (Nov 7) and I see an OLD 30 foot Sutphen "Great Adventure" running in the P-5 class! The waters were pretty nasty and Great Adventure took the class win! How cool is that!
I really don't give a chit about the big cats, for me the production boats are real fun to watch.

Re: Sutphen Gossip

can anyone tell me why are boats so rediculasly exspensive (not this one in particular just boats in general ) they cost as much as Lambrginis and it looks like not much more than some fiberglass and motors ,..i know you can buy a mercrusier 496 HO for 22,000 new..so why would a new boat be 80 or 90 thousand for a 26 or 27 foot and 150 to 200 thousand for one over 30 ft ..isnt it just fiberglass and some seats ...is it just HUGH profit margins or am i missing something ...they cost more than houses and as much as a lamborgini ?
Please educate the NOOB here

If your house cost less than the boats your looking at, look at cheaper boats.
It takes alot of time and labor to build a boat.
Dont forget all the rigging and parts involved.
You can buy a mass produced 24 baja w/ 496 for around 60.

I was thinking (more like dreaming) lately about a cut-down 26 Sutphen w/twin 300 Suzuki 4 stroke O/B's and what a great lake runner that thing would be. Any opinions?

I've always thought a twin OB 26 was the perfect boat!
Do the big 4-strokes weigh more than the older 2.5 Merc 2-strokes? Sounds like a ton of weight, leveraged off the rear of the boat. Would it need a bracket with flotation?

I read the Suzuki 300 is being introduced later this year. Their 250 is about 600 lbs. Two of those is about the same weight as a B/B Bravo.

I was real close to trading my old BMW M roadster for a 26 with twin small blocks.
