I think if you went to Sutphen and said you were going to race the hull and wanted to maximize the performance, Richie would do a stagger set-up for sure, good external hyd steering was std. and possibly some minor changes in the lay-up. Some folks prefer a stagger and then again some don't. Also probably would depend on how fast you wanted to run. I've been running them since 83' and have never regretted one day:D

The "Execution Express" belonged to a friend of mine, who like Spitfire said in an earlier post, had a 44' MTI built w/ twin turbines. I looked at the Sutphen to buy a few years back. The hull appeared in outstanding condition. The boat had sat for years alongside his house up the beach and when a rag was rubbed along the bottom, it looked brand new. I believe the boat was running around 100 mph back in its heyday. There were many hi-po parts that were going with the boat when I was looking including 2 freshened Speedy's. If someone had the dough and patience that would make a great hot rod poker runner.

#2's are old school TRS uppers with speedmaster lowers.
#3's are beefed up uppers with Speedmaster lowers and are much stronger and can take some HP's. I wouldn't say they're bullet proof, or new technology, but better than #2's. They had some trouble with the #3's and later came out with #3A's which are a little beefier than the old #3's. Long story short...the boat is worth more with #3's than 2's. Jump in fellas if I'm wrong here. Not an expert by far. |
Take a close look at the transom assemblies, they are TRS. Also, parts for the Speedmaster II are extinct. Nothing available. But Konrads are a diect bolt on.

I know as I think back I have said it twice in the past. Unless you have owned, driven, throttled or raced one you have no idea what they are all about. LS |
