30 Sutphen TRS X-Dimension?

Question for you TRS Sutphen guys, what X-Dimensions are out there? Just wondering how much variation between pleasure, race and Speedmaster II instalations.

Yesterday I took some measurements off this 1980 30 race boat. (very cool boat by the way!) It was originally rigged with Speedmaster II's and has an X-Dimention of 19.5" With the SSMII, this would put the propshaft 5.5" below the bottom of the hull.

Thanks,

Kurt

If your in town for the boat show feel free to stop buy the house & ck the X on GA. She is on the lift in the back yard.
We can hit the ocean & bang some waves.

With the transom assemblies on and the drives off, I measured from the center point of the input to the drive to the bottom edge of the transom at the centerline of the drive and got approximately 16". It was pretty much eyed up with a tape measure down to a straight edge along the bottom of the hull, with some margin of error.

Good idea. That boat runs so nice and carries well over slop like in Steve's avitar. I would guess the prop shafts are near the same level of the bottom of the V. This pic shows how high the boat carries in the calm at 80 mph. Enjoy, both of you.

Jim...... You know how GA handles you drove it in a race. They are a handful to drive at speed, but once you get it down to a science, it's a piece of cake.

I have had 3 Sutphen Race boats & raced them all. They were all great, but this one is a tad above the other 2 when it comes to speed and handling.

When Gary Hartman built the big engines for it, he said it ran 92 & like it was on rails. I think after 10 years of building the 30, then coming out with the 31, Richie out did himself.

His race boats were built a little different than his pleasure version for sure. They were lighter, a higher X, different bulkheads & it seems they were balanced better.

Original Stock Merc Power Steering with outside rams that came with the boat when it was built.

Lenny.....Thanks for the call, it's been a long time.
Your Dad did a hell of a job driving my boat one year in the Benihana. He & I made a great team in the blue Sutphen.
Looking forward to banging a few waves with you when you get to FL.
Say Hi to the family from Meta & myself.
