Fuel tank pick up ??

OK So sunday I am over in Sag harbor LI and I am cranking along having a great time in my sutphen when BRRRRRRR one engine slows to a stop.

I try and try to start it but nothing.
SO I limp back home 3.5 hrs at 3MPH on one engine.

I do some checking around and find that the pickup tube in my tank un threaded.

Its about a 16 inch aluminum tube threaded into an elbow with a angle cut at the bottom.
NO big deal I figure I'll just go buy one.

Except I cant find the same thing anywhere.

Its like the one in this thread http://www.offshoreonly.com/forums/g...-one-tank.html

except aluminum. anyone know where I can find one?

I wanna take the boat out this weekend.

I can hear it already You can find one at the bottom of your fuel tank.LOL
There lets get that out of the way now.LOL

none of you sutphen owners know?

How about great adventure didnt he just do a new fuel tank?

ChristianGott 09-03-2009 05:47 PM

can't you just make one, using the other as a model?

Just have on made! Any decent machine shop should be able to do something for you! When I had my tank built I built the pickups myself!

Thats probably what I will do I just need to find the material before sat.
It would be easier if I could pull one off the shelf somewhere.
I didnt want to go re inventing the wheel if I could go down to Ocean performance and buy one off the shelf or something like that.

I just put in 2 new tanks in G.A. 110 under the floor & a 50 gal. in the nose.

I can give you the companies # if that helps, they make the tanks in house here in Pompano Beach.

The week before It happened I hit a nasty set of wakes in the river at speed and came down pretty hard. Must have happened then because it was snapped off in the fitting.

Must have been just holding on for the raide that day it broke in sag harbor

You should fish out the old one. Because it will chaff through your tank. Not right away but it will (Replace a customers tank for this reason). I used a piece of aluminum T.I.G. filler rod, went through one hole and the light through the other and fished it out. That is how I have gotten them out before.

...and pray the piece didn't sneak past the baffles otherwise you going to need more then a piece of welding rod to fish it out!

Did you get some made in alum?

30ctsutphen 09-16-2009 09:57 PM

No havent gotten one made yet. fountainICBM and I have been talking and it sounds like he can make me one.
I am planning on getting the old one out just figured that was a job better suited to when I get it home and have plenty of time.

like the tig rod Idea. Thats a good one. I was gonna go With a coat hanger since I have the super capacity tank in my boat.(of course)
