Old Sutphen Saved
I just aquired a 74 Sport Pacer 173 from a guy with a bunch of project boats that lost storage and wanted it to go to a good home. Im in CT. I received a call that there were a bunch of boats that were gonna be junked so I had to go look and found the Sport Pacer. It has the original 74 merc 150 tower of power that runs as well. He even towed it to my house for me. It needs resto but all there unmolested except for a funky 1970's paint job. I called Ritchie in Fla. gave him the Hin# he told me he had originally sold it to a guy in lowell Ma. who bought 2 of them. Mine was originally maroon and white. Im really looking forward to this project. I bet it will run great when the old tower of power gets dialed in. Anyone have one ? or had one ? Kind wondering what kind of speed I can expect from her. Thanks Paul

Thats the way I found it in the sand pit of a construction co. Looks better all cleaned up. Right now she is all covered up till spring.
|
I peeled off the registration sticker and found the original maroon underneath im wondering if that bakingsoda blasting will get rid of that old paint job without ruining the underneath. anyone tried it?
|
Scorpion Paul, If you need a motor call, Max's O/B he had a good looking 150 h.p. a few months ago. 781-335-4456 "HIGH LIFE"

just wet sand the hull down to the original Maroon paint.
I get graphics off race cars this way all the time down to the base color and the buff. |
Cool I will try that. I Just scored a nice set of wrap around bucket seats with plastic seat frames. Is anyone still messing around with the tower of power mercs. Are there parts still around to freshin up the engine? I talked to the last owner and he a said the boat was a 50 mph boat but thought the engine needed some tuning and there was more in it. It sucks that I got it so late in the season or I would be all over this thing. It has these super cool old school guages that look like the old stewart warners from the 60/70s . The steering wheel is a 3 spoke stainless and wood. looks like it came from a 60s vette. In the otherhand it has maroon astroturf flooring that must go.

talk to a guy named transomestand on screamandfly.com hes a good guy and he knows alot of O/B people in CT. He has helped me out with the whole O/B learning curve.
They arent nearly as hard to work on as you might think. The more time I spend around them the more I like them. |
that is a sweet looking hot rod there.
|
My old 20 is for sale here in CT.
I dont have specifics but if anyone is interested I'll find out more about it. It had a brand new 350 SBC in it, volovo 290 drive, And the guy put a brand new trailer under it. I dont think it has ever moved an inch since I sold it. |
CT sutphen Got any pix of it hanging around?
