what makes sutphen so special

Guys We all know that the 26 degree dead rise is a huge part of what we like about or boats, but what else do you guys like about yours?

Allot of other brand owners dont KNOW about our hulls.

One of the things I realy like about the sutphen is How wide the protion just in front of the windshield is and up to the bow.

My brother has a 32 fountain fever which is a nice boat. However thers no cabin space in it. It claustrophbic down there. My 31 sutphens ia cavernous underneath, you could spend the weekend down there if you had too. which is unheard of in a flat deck usually.

Lets give the rest of the world a place to read why sutphen is such a great boat!

noyzee 09-30-2010 08:36 AM

i spend 2 or 3 days on my 26 checkmate. you can sleep anyplace. lol

the thing i love about sutphen is the style, i love the hard lines mixed with the soft lines of the top half of the bow. the smooth yet aggressive look. i love the basic strips they use, nothing crazy to make it stand out, just classy lines.
i like that the newer ones hold the lines of the old ones, no crazy change but with the modern gauges etc.

i could go on and on, there is just something about sutphen that makes it my favorite boat, and at some point in my life i will own one.

sixmassive 09-30-2010 08:42 AM

Not a splash from another boat like every other brand out there that was stretched, widened, or cut down.
still a small family company with great people. Richie gave me a history lesson the other day on sutphen and offshore boats, how it started and some great stories from the day. I want that damn red 31!

thirdchildhood 09-30-2010 09:25 AM

I sleep on my 22' Donzi Classic as long as there are facilities at the marina. :) Not exactly 5 star accommodations but I do it.

fobes 09-30-2010 09:39 AM

Pedigree (race victories/ PT boat lineage), style (simple and aggressive), lack of frills, stout construction, etc, etc.
I personally love the way they look, to me, outstanding proprtions.
Great boats.

wstultz 09-30-2010 09:46 AM

The bow. Strakes going all the way up to the deck. In my opinion every Sutphen add should just be front angle shots of all of their boats. I also like all the a$$ kicking they do when racing and the history of the hull. Definitely great lines.

The landing!!!!

The beam is carried very far forward making it an extremely "dry" boat...

This is our Sutphen next to our old Gladiator, both 8 ft beam boats..

Thats the pic that explains what I was speaking of well.
Both internally and externally that part of its design makes a HUGE difference.

You loo at my boat at rest and it FLOATS more than almost any 30 to 32 I am ever around. You really notice it when swimming around the boat. Its a very dry design.

emilsr 09-30-2010 02:23 PM

Not a Sutphen owner, but definitely a fan of the design. I'm not much of a "style" guy....form should follow function, and it does with these boats. That may be the thing I like most.

The other thing that impresses me is that it's a variable deadrise, unlike the majority of performance boats which are (more or less) just a copy of the Bertram Moppie with a 24 degree deadrise bow to stern with a bell shaped entry. That design obviously is a good one (Ray Hunt was a freakin genius if you ask me), but what Sutphen did with their hull is arguably an even better design for really big water. I don't expect any of you owners would disagree. :drink:

Then there's the connection to ELCO (who was making boats for the Brits even before WWII and the PT boats), the racing lineage and the build quality of the boats themselves. Every one that I've seen up close looked like it was built several times stronger than it would ever need to be.

You guys should be very proud of your boats. They're awesome! :flag:

Thats a really nice FLYIN level picture too. everyone always likes the launch to the sky pics but really this is how a boat SHOULD fly and land!

I did to want the red one, it was to high a price I though with out power or drive train. and it was my fav color. what really sucks is I could of bought the 05 31 blue and white all set for what the red on cost or what I paid for the 1100hp and konrad ace set up:evilb:. the 05 went down in price after I bought my package from 120,000 to like 60,000 wow. I hope the saber will give ernie a run or stay close to him:coolcowboy: if I'm in this fall hope he runs out with me and gerry in case I need a tow I just can;t see the turbine skater towing me:evilb:. sutphens should have a #1 on the side not cig:evilb:

30ctsutphen 10-04-2010 10:21 PM

I really like that even here, where they sold the best, Not everyone has one!

30ctsutphen 11-04-2010 08:02 PM

Thought Id add this:

as you read it realize that Bob had more SUTPHENS than any other boat through the years, He was probably one of the most knowledgable boats USERS in the sport having spent more time in boats than many boat builders.

I am proud to own one of his boats (highlighted) I am also proud that my boat was built in 1993 the year BOB was inducted into the hall of fame. while I never knew him, I truely appreciate him from the stories I have heard about his life and his character. He had the MONEY to buy ANY boat he wanted and he chose SUTPHENS more often than any other make.

That says allot about our brand.

Excerpt double R performance website:
To say that Bob McCoy is the "godfather of poker runs" is an understatement. For over twenty years, Bob has been a fixture on the circuit. He has owned more boats than you would believe, including several 39 Sutphens, a quad outboard Baja, centre consoles, and many many more. Bob's current arsenal includes a new 39 Sutphen with quad Mercury 250XS outboards, a 30 Sutphen with twin Mercury 300 X's and this 4300 Supervee, his biggest and fastest boat ever.

The "Reel McCoy," Bob's second Nor-tech was custom built by Nor-tech for Bob. It features his signature touches, including durable fabrics, non-slip floor in the cabin, durable carpet in the cockpit, red, white and gray styling, and a BIG windshield. It is quite an experienc to be able to stand up with a baseball cap on at 110 mph and not lose it. The boat is equipped with new Mercury 1075's with dry-sump number six drives and will run over 110 mph. Bob got 110 hours out of his first set and they were running perfect but opted to buy new rather than rebuild. Bob hauls his Nor-tech around on it's custom 5-th wheel Myco and you'll see it at a poker run near you!

This version of "the Reel McCoy" stays in Port Perry, Ontario with Bob and stays in Canada when Bob goes south in the winter. It runs waters all over Ontario, usually, of course, in poker runs.

AHHH HAHHH HAHHH You guys are SOOOOOOO funny!

I would have thought youd be hanging out enjoying calaudios for a while Had I known it was going to be MORE of a run than a party I would have motivated a little faster.

I thought it would have been run over to claudios drink eat and hang out for 3 or 4 hrs (sober up) and then run back.

Thats the normal weekend drill over there.

were there everyother weekend

That was in response to the AARP remark. We had a great day out on Long Island Sound. The OS area is a great destination for SUTPHEN WACKOS like us. The islands in Long Island Sound are beautiful. The next time we get together,we will plan a full day.

30ctsutphen 11-07-2010 12:36 AM

Man I forgot all about my AARP remark.LOL

Thats what I call my brothers boat. The AARP express. hes thrilled about it.

dba900 11-08-2010 10:22 AM

We'll have to meet up with you guys if we can get my father's boat together and running right. We'll see what this winter brings, I guess.

This year, at the Atlantic City Race, Pete and I went out on Saturday to test. {Nopper Marine 26} Because of a Hurricane offshore the waves were 6 to 10 ft rollers. We had no problems running the boat in these conditions. We were looking forward to Sunday Race day. The seas grew to 15 ft on Sunday, while the Coast Guard decided if we could race or not. A comment made by a fellow racer shows the respect earned by Sutphens.
As we were walking to the drivers meeting , the comment was" The only boats they are going to let race today are Suyphens"

sutphen caliente 06-02-2011 10:24 PM

thanks guys!!

with the economy... has slowed my sutphen to a crawl I was starting to give in to less expensive (compared to what I am building) boats. reading these posts reminds me WHY I STARTED IN THE FIRST PLACE!!! thanks again!!!
