Outrageous - speed with 420s?

Hi all,
I am most likely going to look at an Outrageous with crate 502s (about 415 hp each) and TRS drives. What should that boat run speed-wise? Is there much of a difference in the cockpit size between the Ocean Pacer and the Outrageous?
Thanks,
David

More room in the outrageous. Which 33 is it?

my 1987 33 wite trs and supposedly 500 hp would struggle to reach 70, i think the motors were closer to 400 hp. when tested new i believe a 33 with 420 reached 74. call richie or chris they will know for sure.

dba900 12-01-2010 02:03 PM

Hmm, sounds like 70 or so would be most likely. BTW, my father runs out of Falmouth Harbor; maybe we'll see you out there some time.

what does your father run? falmouth is not noise friendly!:bsflag:

dba900 12-02-2010 09:30 AM

He's got a '78 Ocean Pacer with 330s  He hasn't done anything about mufflers yet, but we trailer the boat, so we can always drop it in elsewhere if we start getting hassled. I don't think they're doing too much enforcement these days, but of course things can always change.

Lucky Strike, thanks! That's about what I figured. Shaun, you must be right around 90 with twin 650s.

right on the money 89.9 last time out but i was running with alot of fuel. and i had to trim the sh-- out of it , also i dont know what the props really are ,supposedly 30s , i hope for 92 93 with new props and more bow lift with less trim. we live in brewster and usually boat in cape cod bay . what color is your dads boat and where does he keep it?

dba900 12-03-2010 10:41 AM

It's a red Ocean Pacer named "Past Performance" :lolhit: He trailers it, but they live in Falmouth so we almost always launch out of Falmouth harbor. Good luck selecting the right prop - 92-93 is hauling the mail in the water we get on the Cape (as you well know)!

One more question: Would 500 hp a side get you to 80, or not quite? I have heard there's a cam upgrade you can do to the crate 502s in this boat I'm looking at that will net you around 500 hp.

dba900 12-03-2010 02:57 PM

I'd love to buy Tsunami, but neither my father nor I have the coin. It's a beautiful boat, though!

There's a (lousy) photo in the link: http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo...eat=directlink

Pretty boat! get in touch with billy sutphen30 he is usually on boatfreaks he is my motor guru, he also has a bad ass 30 footer, with whipples and upgraded to bravos. tell him I told you to contact him!

30ctsutphen 12-03-2010 05:23 PM

Wow I want that boat!!!

It looks just like the boat My buddy kiko and later my brother ran. I spent so many hrs working on and enjoying that boat through the years its like part of me. I spent from the time I was 20 until about 35 on that boat almost every weekend

It Busted up just off the flat rock in Old lyme shores in a storm.

Brand new everything at the time too.

Thats a pretty color scheme and gorgeous looking boat!

I need to dig up some pics of the old 30 and post them.

dba900 12-04-2010 07:05 AM

Hey guys, thanks for the kind words! So far, so good, but we have a lot of odds and ends to fix/change (as everyone always does). Shaun, I will look up Sutphen30 on boatfreaks.

dba900 12-05-2010 07:52 AM

Tell me a little more about that boat! The all-red looks great. What year was it? Did it have bolsters or seats? Full-width dash or the smaller dash? I think we'll make some "revisions" if we end up keeping this one since right now the cockpit and instrumentation leave a lot to be desired.

dba900 03-22-2011 09:27 AM

Back on track. What is the size of the gas tank in a 33'? Single or twin tanks? Would 500 hp a side get you to 80 if it's a TRS boat? Can I assume 385 hp a side would result in a 65 mph-ish boat?

My 33 with trs and supposedly 500 hp , had a hard time making 78 mph, like I said supposedly 500 hp! Tank is a single not sure about size.

Actually, my father is looking at "Night Moves" tomorrow. He's mainly thinking of buying it for parts if the number is right, but in concept we could drop the engines we just had rebuilt from the Ocean Pacer into the Outrageous. I guess that would only be an option if "Night Moves" isn't hammered. Unfortunately I have to work or I'd take a bunch of photos of "Night Moves" as it sits.

Christian, thanks for posting that photo! It's getting to be time to put some boat back together. Of course, it is supposed to snow tomorrow :lolhit:

Sick Stinger, did you sell your Carrera? I assume you're going to be putting the Cafe back together?

Night Moves....at $4995, the price is right.

30ctsutphen 03-22-2011 10:23 PM

somebody survey this thing and lets find out if its wet once and for all.LOL

If its not wet its a good deal IMO at that price!

kreed 03-23-2011 06:36 AM

Night Moves has some history, would be a shame to see it bought for parts only!

SS930 03-23-2011 06:51 AM

I love the all black hull, practical or not. Needs a lot of work and updating though...

TOASTY 03-23-2011 07:14 AM

If available, can someone please send me additional photos of Night Moves?

I love red boats my new saber was a all red boat, and the 1st or second owner painted the deck and sides white with a red design on it then the 3rd owner painted the transom black and bottom yeck. but did a good job on the cockpit so after I get it running after 2 years over the winter I willeither strip it and paint the factory color or add more to the design. I wish they kept it all red.can't wait to see if I can keep with boxer/ sutphen30/shaun's 33.Iwanted to build a sutphen but SR wanted to much for the red 07 blank hull, and JR. was not ready with the 27 hull. and when chris was selling his 31 I had just bought the konrad ace package and started the gellner 572 blown motor build. that was anuff cash for the 05 31:eek::eek::eek::eek:. well if my 28 comes out good, gerry said I won't sell it cause I still have my 24ol sitting inside collecting dust. all torn apart :grinser010:. if Ijust would of waited a few months I would of been in the sutphen family. can't wait to run with you guys and get gerry out with me so he can recall the ride of a vee. ha haa
