Shutoff for raw water pickup
I guess I could ask anyone with pickups, but first I'll try to keep it "in the family".
My cooling system has no protection should anything burst below the waterline. I'm looking for input from anyone who has addressed this issue. I have transmissions so I have room by the transom (point being a valve right after the pickup would provide complete protection) Any thoughts? Thanks Dennis |

How did you plumb it? where did you place it?
thanks Dennsi |
sorry, I ordered a pick up with a male threaded 1 1/4'' npt put a ss 90 that had a round bend to shut off then a straight ss tube, then a bend 90 degree into the sea strainer. theres a hose from strainer to 90, for flex. the shut off was vertical on the transom. sorry being late on this. Artie

thanks for the replies guys.
Airtime, I think I got a good idea what you did. My initial thought is that all those bends would effect cooling b/c of pressure loss w/ the increased head. Did you see any changes? Would you happen to have a pic? Also how do you get to the valve to operate it. Is is hard to reach? Thanks Dennis |
