Speed+Power question

Whats speeds can be expected in an 80s 33ft with twins and TRS drives:

Speeds with
Twin 400hp--
Twin 500hp--
Twin 600hp--
etc?

This older thread has a 33 tested with 400's. You can probably use Bam's Speed Tester to figure out the rest.

sutphen 30 06-20-2012 08:38 AM

radar test showed 69mph.

yes I can see you can read from the boat test I scanned..
I am gving the BRAND the benefit of doubt because I like Sutphen's...next...
P.S. this is the "old guy".....

Test boat was an 85. A late 80's 33' might be a little faster.

Hey Billy , behave! And Ken, Billy and Paul will be slowing me down, so it looks like you will still be just slightly faster than me , if I could lighten the load you would not stand a chance!:lolhit:

power

Good deal, just took delivery of a 33', needs a pair of engines and didnt know how crazy i would have to get to make it move. Twin 500 horsepower engines should push it high 70s then?
Finishing my Apache, then starting on this one. Cant beat classic boats, great lines, built tough, pound though anything.

The biggest holdback you have is the trs and it's x dimension. I raised my x went to bravos and with 650 hp? I can reach 90 mph .

33

Still trying to decide a plan of attack on it. May end up being a diesel boat, I have a pair of Dt-466 engines and tons of tractor pulling parts. 400hp would be no problem, would have around 1600ft lbs torque. Would need gearing (2speed trannys) because rpms would only be 3,500 for longevity.
Seems as though the bottom was blueprinted at one point in its life, straight as an arrow and sharp.

Post some pics of your new 33. Great looking boats.

Thanks, the pictures definetly do her justice. Needs quite a bit of updating.

Thanks for getting picture on also, Not sure why it wouldnt work for me.

Hey Lib...
Please strip it down completely and check for ALL structural issues. This boat comes from a long line of great boats, but if you don't prepare her wisely, you may be seriously injured. Fix the boat first, then worry about the power.
