Wade,
The motor is a 500+ HP 502 that started life as a MC465HP.

Good question. A lot had to do with the maintenance side of things. Getting too old to drain engines and change starters upside down in a tight bilge. They're proven to be a good working hull in both single and twin so all I see that I'm giving up is the reliability of the twins. Speed should be the same or better after shedding 1000 lbs. and a lower unit. I hope all that deadrise does it's job and the rough water ride stays the same.

Great job, Phil! Question: When Mark at Tuff Marine removed the center stringer, did he make any other changes? That is, did he add bracing anywhere else? Is the center stringer just there to support the second engine? I ask because I've thought of doing the same thing with our 30' Ocean Pacer. The engine compartments are very tight on these old Sutphens and with today's power I'd think you might almost be better off with a big single.

I'll look forward to your performance numbers in the spring!

No other changes were made aside from raising the short stringers.

It is at the point with my ocean pacer, I have to damn near pull the engine/trans to change the starboard raw water pump impeller. I see a bracket with outboards in my future. If a twin SBC 26 is anything like the twin BBC OP. I understand completely going to a single to work on things.
