Single BBC in my 26
2 Attachment(s)
As the pictures show, I have converted my 26 which was a twin SBC/Alpha boat to a single BBC/Bravo setup. I started this a few years ago and got involved with a few other things so it's just getting wrapped up now. Anxious to try it out come spring now that it's gotten to this point. I'll spend the winter re-doing my dash (stock style Wade), wiring, install interior and a few other little things here and there. It's been a lot of fun and most of the parts and advise I need were sourced right here on OSO - Thanks guys!!!

Wow! Looks very nicely done.
|
That looks fantastic. You will have to let me know how it runs for you and what hp your bbc is.
|
Looks Great Phil.

Scippy,
Here are some additional photos starting with a couple of before pictures. With the engines removed, Mark from Tuff Marine filled the holes, removed the centre stinger, re-glassed the transom and cut the hole for the Bravo transom assembly. I raised the existing factory small stringers to accept the Gil mount. |
Great work!! Looks awesome!!
BTW, video of it running would be nice.....hmmmmmmmmm?? |

With the glass work done the re-rigging began with holes drilled, bilge painted, pumps and wiring. Then the tabs, transom assembly and steering added, then finally the motor and exhaust.

That's a great looking bilge. Good job
|
Wade,
The motor is a 500+ HP 502 that started life as a MC465HP. |
Looks great. Nice job. Any questions regarding props, etc. call 401-261-6225. Ernie
|
Nice job.... My question Phil is why?
|
Good question. A lot had to do with the maintenance side of things. Getting too old to drain engines and change starters upside down in a tight bilge. They're proven to be a good working hull in both single and twin so all I see that I'm giving up is the reliability of the twins. Speed should be the same or better after shedding 1000 lbs. and a lower unit. I hope all that deadrise does it's job and the rough water ride stays the same.

Great job, Phil! Question: When Mark at Tuff Marine removed the center stringer, did he make any other changes? That is, did he add bracing anywhere else? Is the center stringer just there to support the second engine? I ask because I've thought of doing the same thing with our 30' Ocean Pacer. The engine compartments are very tight on these old Sutphens and with today's power I'd think you might almost be better off with a big single.
I'll look forward to your performance numbers in the spring! |
No other changes were made aside from raising the short stringers.

It is at the point with my ocean pacer, I have to damn near pull the engine/trans to change the starboard raw water pump impeller. I see a bracket with outboards in my future. If a twin SBC 26 is anything like the twin BBC OP. I understand completely going to a single to work on things.

mines not bad to work on,now that it's a bravo boat.
I reallly like the way that 26 turned out with the single! |
what x-dimension for the single drive and how did u come up with the measurement?
|
I think it's 17 or 17.5. Ernie (Boxer) provided the input. Are you working on a single 26?
