Need help with 26 Sutphen outboard
 

can any of you guys help me out here? need some info on rear bracket for the outboards. Anyone running 20" motors on their 26 Sutphen. I just picked one up and are looking to replace the old Gil tubular brackets with a twin bracket w/platform, looking for any dimensions you can give me on the bracket as far as height on transom, width, etc.

Hey Tim. Good luck with the new boat. Wixer has the basic bracket you want except I would check and see how far back you need to be able to acquire full tilt. I think his is pretty close at full tilt with his 200 Mercs. Your OMCs are a little taller and may need an additional inch or two of setback to be able to fully tilt up for trailering. Both Jim and I have Stainless Marine brackets and if you call them they will know what setback you need at a minimum, as well as what center to center you need. Jims 200s can be mounted 20" center to center. My 300 need 24" center to center. Stainless will know what center to center is required for your engines. The tighter the better for best performance. Stainless has a check sheet they send you with measurements from many different spots as well as where trim tabs are. When there done you have a custom bracket that fits like a glove. Couple pictures of mine. Notice the tabs how nice they fit in that notched out area. When there fully up they are just shy of touching the bracket. These guys are on the money! Spoke to Jim today and he told me he's gonna get some measurements for you. Hope this is a help. Have fun.

I love that boat.. And he is spot on about stainless marine brackets. They did a bracket for me and it's awesone, I couldnt be happier with dealing with them, they are on point, and thus far one of the only to not screw me over.. I will be ordering my next bracket from them, as I am getting ready to derig my ocean pacer and put opti on it. Only question is 2 or 3 ? Jamesgang, and advice? Twins or trips optis on a op?

Your rig is Bad A** , super nice boat. I am trying to get mine in the garage this week. Too nice to keep outside. Maybe I can get up north sometime to run with you guys.

Hey Showtime. Depends on your budget and what your trying to accomplish performance wise. You a 2 stroke or 4 guy?

2 stroke all the way. Love 2.5s but if/when I do this will go with 3.0 optis, hopefully 300xs.

Well your probably looking just under 80 with twins and just over 90 with triples. I suggest you beef up the transom real good if you go with triples though. It's not just the weight, there's a lot of adverse forces going on back there when you get these things up over 90. And to run correctly at those speeds your gearcases cant be buried so that means the outside cases bark a lot. Its tough on things but if set up correctly it will work great. You need vent kits on your outside cases and you need a hull pickup for the center engine. With twins real easy, bolt them on as high as you can get water pressure and go have fun. A lot more complicated to set up the triples and have it be trouble free. So I'm curious - what do you want?

I would be fine at 80 with properly setup twin 300xs. I was worried the COG would be off with triple 3.0 on a OP. Looking to do a 23" stainless marine bracket and rnr slide master jackplates. I would definitely add some huge knees and maybe a horizontal. I love the big blocks that are in it. But I've been a outboard guy always. That and I'm sick and tired of working on big blocks, I pretty much have to pull the engine to change the impeller on the starboard engine.

Was trying to post this one. Having trouble here tonight. Anyway we got 4" angle aluminum across all the top bolts to bracket. That also ties into aluminum knees that bolt into stringers, as well as the cross bridge. I don't think all this is necessary with twins. When I had twins I just had the aluminum, I added the cross bridge and side knees when I did the triples.
