Speed from a 38' Sutphen

How fast will a 38' Sutphen run with twin 650 HP and #III drives?

Thanks Kirk

Thats a good question. How much does it weigh? Any mods to the hull or drive height levels? What ratio are the trannys and drives? What size and pitch props? Are they 650hp to the drives or 600 after everything is said and done? An 8000lb 38' Scarab with #4s and twin 1000sc merc power with 29 Spinellis set up to the nines (I mean this is a kevlar hulled race boat...NO EXPENSE SPARED) does low ninties through HUGE headers and five inch exhaust. Thats about 950hp and 950ftlbs of torque to each prop. Big numbers equal big numbers(somtimes...) Your boat set up with 600hp to each prop, good exhaust, the right ratios and right size props with normal drive height, etc, etc should see around 75 to 80. The operative word is "should". My thirty footer with around 525 to 550hp to each prop set up right should get low eighties...but thats 5100lbs of boat. How much heavier is yours? Plus that extra 8ft creates a whole new drag coefficent. The guy to ask is Bill aka Suthpen 30. Hes helping me set my boat up and seems to know his s%@t. Anyway, I eventually am going to get into a older 38' or a newer 35' Sutphen somday...goodluck!!

38 with 4's on boxes, 650 hp, 1.5 ratio with 4 blade 25's will run around 84-85 at 5900 with a 3-4 people and almost full of fuel.

Thanks Guys, There is a 38 coming up at auction in a couple of days, I may be interested if the price is right. As well as the one in the classifieds.
