How the heck do those prop locks work, are they used in place of the nut, or go over the end of the shaft somehow??

it looks like the nut is seen when you put it on then you push the key in which makes the blue sleeve cover the nut then turn key and pull out. thats what I got from looking at it:party-smiley-004:
