Put that same engine in your boat and see how well your pistons like buckets of water dumped on them. While I agree car shops are making more power for less $$$ and marine engines are overpriced......there are other differences that limit the power marine engines make (therefore requiring more expensive builds)

My neighbor builds drag engines....he claims his own engines are built to peak HP near 7,000 rpms and would not last long if held at 5,000 rpm's for long periods of time like our engines. (He built a 900hp SBC, and a blown/nitrous 1,400+ hp BBC in his 2 cars)

I have a fresh 468 that I will make 500+. IT needs a few parts to finish and I would sell it as it sits for well under what your looking to spend, and it is a marine motor. IT is a cast crank but with forged rods and pistons though.

You get what you pay for. See you next winter when you're looking for another.

BTW, that is not a 500 or 525. Merc engines will have a significantly higher value.

no it's a 454 rebuild with performance upgrades from company in toronto .. been in business for 36yrs and comes with a one year warranty..

I do agree you get what you pay for. I haven't bought it yet. I am going to look at it and also a fresh rebuilt 500 tomorrow.. the 500 is 12k , also has warranty and can be built up to something more if I want.

Btw you are probably right about the 454 I am looking at.......
