540 c.i. mercruiser $5000

I have a 540 ci merc engine in good condition I would like to sell. This is a running freshwater motor.Sometime in it's history the previous owner machined the intake to fit a quadrajet??.Motor is complete with gil exhaust. This is my first post on here ,so I know I have no credibility. But -- motor is located just north of Atlanta ,Ga .So come take a look and check the compression for yourself. The block casting # is 14044807=tall deck cnc'd Bowtie block 4.495 bore X 4.250 stroke.Virtually no rust or corrosion..

yep quadrajet.I checked a little into history of motor (s) .I've got a pair ,only selling one .These motors were bought and installed in a 40' cruiser .yes cruiser. They came with stellings ,but original owner swapped / bought gill.I'm not understanding what he was thinking when he installed them in a 40X15 flybridge boat . Intake is/was a holley pattern that was nicely machined for qjet..It's original aluminum intake ,with machined plates on ports to adapt hi-deck .Even though these are good running motors.I'm thinking the value is in the sum of the parts .They were closed cooling motors. The valve covers have 540/575hp on them .:drink:

4.95 bore,or did you mean 4.5 bore?:party-smiley-004:

I pulled heads off one of the two in order to take a look.I didn't mic it .But it seemed to measure just short of 4.5 .And if you look up a casting # 14044807 at www.mortec.com. It lists that block as a hi-deck cnc'd 4.250 or 4.495 bore .I might be off a few tho with my tape, but not a quarter inch .This is a standard bore motor. When I get to work tomorrow I can mic ,if it matters. The one I'm keeping (the one with the heads off) is going in a 72 Chevelle .I'm doing a freshen up .More compression (pistons) and more cam ,Because I can. I won't be using a stanley tape measure at that point . :grinser010:
