Imco/XR 1" shorter lowers
I am currently running Imco/XR 1" shorter lowers (no paint) and I am thinking I want to trade them for a pair of standard length XR lowers that are brand new or have just been rebuilt with less than 10 hours on them. I have only 20 hours on mine since they were gone thru. There were no original issues, just regular maintenance. I bought them thinking that I would gain speed, but I have lost speed due to a miscalculation of my X dimension. I bought 1" spacers to put them back down, but I don't want to mess with spacers now. I need the drives to be deeper so I can get more bow lift back.
PM me if you are interested in talking about a swap or whatever. Smitty |

Off topic Smitty, but what is the measurement you are shooting for between the hull and the bullet?

I cant count the number of times I have seen this ...but there is really no way to know until you try it .....
Smitty .... Did you pretty much loose all the way around? Or just top end? Planing times? We got a 353 in June with Imco Drives with standard lowers and I asked the guy I bought the boat from about shorties and he said Imco did not recommend them .... I am thinking they might have been right ....planing time is difficult and the boat runs flat ....I cant imagine less bow lift ... Smitty .... Have you thought about talking to the "prop" guys about more bow lift? ...m |
My original setup was std Bravo's. I exploded one so I went to XR's. And since I was buying new drives, I thought why not go shorter, so I bought the Imco lowers.
I lost 2-3 mph on top and had to go to 5 blade props just to get on plane in a reasonable amount of time. I then had the props custom tuned to my rig and got back 1 mph. The boat runs flatter now and the water breaks more forward than before. I need more bow lift. I have worked out a deal with a guy from here, so I no longer am looking for someone to swap with. And I may even put the 1" spacers I bought on the stock length drives to put props in even deeper. That is an old racer trick from the days of heavy straight vee bottoms. Extra weight in back also does nothing since the 5 blades lift the stern. As stated, sometimes you need to experiment til you find what works. As long as the wallet will allow... |

I have a set of DWP standard bravo XR lowers. About 10 hours on them behind 500 hp's. Went to sportmaster lowers. [email protected]
