71 vette conv. for ????

I`m not as interested in the car as I thought I`d be, but when the wife said I could have it I just bought it without much thought. It was a one owner car before I got it, all original down to the spare tire. Nubers match. 350 4 speed. I got it running but it still needs alot to make it right. The interior and dash are really nice shape the paint is bad. No major rust in the birdcage. The original owner died in 2000 and the car was set up since 1994. I bought it from his estate. I might be interested in a boat project, lets see what ya got.

What do you think the car is worth?

Sick Stinger 11-17-2010 07:36 PM

Possabley be instersest to match my 74 stingray all orginal 4 speed T-Top. I have a carerra SS7M twin 200's speedy low bobs nose cone and so on. Needs some work but its 100 water ready ran it last year a few times no issue just needs cosmetic really.

Needs allot of work but it also looks like it has allot of original parts. thats worth something.

Looks like a nice find. question is what do you value it at?

Sick Stinger 11-17-2010 08:21 PM

True 30 I agree. I know what I have and worth.

Since everyone seems to be avoiding what this car is worth at this time....I'll be the one.

My opinion is that you would be extremely lucky to get 8-10K for the car as it sits. It needs a chitload of work to bring any $$$, and these days none of them are bringing any money. Just my 2 cents.... Don't flame me!!!:drink: But you can check Ebay and get an idea.

...but I do own one (72) that has had a frame off restoration and is a pretty nice car. I think that I would be very lucky to get 15-18K for it. It does not have the original engine though. It was replaced with a new 406CI smallblock. A few pictures below.

A very nicely restored 71 with a matching numbers 350 in perfect condition will not bring more than 25K these days. Sad, but true. :( The big block cars and the very rare LT-1's will bring in the 30-40K range.

Glad to hear the values are coming down myself. Growing up with my older brother being into Vettes back in the day I Always loved his 72 the best.

OldSchool your 72 has me witten all over it as i have told you before.A litle 572 in there would have been my dream 10 years ago now that 406 auto with air sounds like the car for me today.

What is the value difference and style change between the 70 to 72s Oldschool?

later 11-17-2010 09:36 PM

judging by the mufflers that are rotting off the car and the engine compartment id say the frame is close to the same, those frames were good for rotting out along the sides and at the back by the trailing arm pockets, i dont see much useable original stuff in the engine compartment. and im sure the interior and top are in the same shape. you could be given the car and still not come out ahead putting it back together. And that someone that knows there away around a garage. Gotta love that war bonnet yellow.

Don't want to hijack the man's thread...but there really is no difference between 70-72 except for small changes (such as color of the parking light lenses). Send me a PM if you are interested. I found a car that I REALLY want. It's been for sale for about a year and a half and the price has now dropped to a number that works for me....But Momma says that the Vette has to go first ;) :D

judging by what I can see in the pics, its a good candidate for a full on resto but dollars and cents would make that a really tough call. I would bet an easy 15 grand worth minimum is needed to dring it back into shape pending the frame rails at the rear and the header brace are solid.

If it is as original as stated, every single brake componernt is toast if it sat that long. Rear berings will be rust pitted on the top side too most likely. U joints would be really stiff too. Every piece of rubber, weatherstrip, etc would need to be changed out. Light retractors rebuilt and on and on it goes.

A friend sold his 72 SB 4spd ragtop for 18 this past summer after spending 25 on it 3 yrs earlier.

Its a real tough market for post 60's sbc C3 cars right now.

Sick Stinger 11-18-2010 08:41 AM

No BS sorry not being an azz car is worth 5-6K as it sits. Like I said I have a complete resto'd 74 Stingray matching numbers 4 speed T-Top whats it worth maybe 10-12K?

You are prerty much correct in all your assumptions, but I`m sure that its more than worth saving. Someone said before that these cars are going for aroud 25k nicely redone and I belive this is accurate. The brakes, carb, rubber componants definately need changing. The iterior is suprisingly nice. I`ve done a couple Camaros in the past and this is a much nicer candidate for resto. Plus a war bonnet vert is cool ass hell.

The pictures are somewhat misleading, the exhauste is shot of course. I got under the car with a wire wheel and the frame is actually excellent. The motor is running and idleing now, the video was the first time I tryed to fire it up. $1500 and it could be a driver. Certainly worth doing. This from a guy who`s done this a few times.

I like the boat, but I believe we might have a logistical situation that would be difficult to over come.
