Heritage Trailer $750
5 Attachment(s)
I have a 2001 Heritage trailer built for a Baja 252 for sale. It is a steel trailer and the frame rails are rusting inside. Just about everything else on this trailer is new within the last 1 1/2 years. This includes tires, UFP brake calipers and pads, bearings, seals, lights, brake master cylinder, bunks, bunk carpet etc. Also has spare hub, bearings, tire, caliper etc.
Now I would not recommend anyone buy this trailer if they want to tow long distance, but they could if they wanted to reinforce the bottom of the frame rails with some angle iron. If you primarily keep your boat in dry storage over the summer and wanted to put it on a trailer and save some $$ over the winter or have a short tow or want to make a perfect fit lift frame out of it or keep it on a lift and need an occasional trailer to get the boat in for service or gas, it would be just great for all that. This trailer will be good for just about any 24 degree non step hull in the 20 -25 foot range. Additional deadrise angles could be accommodated by building up the bunks with additional 2x6's. If I can't sell the whole trailer I will be parting it out and scrapping the frame so that is also an option if you need any of the parts (axles, brakes, tires, wheels etc). The trailer is located in Alabama. Dan |
I am not in the market for a trailer, but it is pretty big of you to point out how rusted the inside of the rails are. many folks would sell it without ever disclosing that. Kudos to you!

Thank you!
Boating is a small world. Power boating a subset of that. Performance boating a very small subset of that. There is no reason to ever be anything other than nice and helpful to each other. Dan |
I know it's got to be difficult to tell, but just how bad is the rusting. Is it through the tubes and visible from the outside? Please explain or send close-up photos to
tbarta26"at"hotmail.com Thanks, Travis |

Nope, not through the tubes. The rear cross member (under the transom) is actually new about 1.5 years ago. I replaced that one. Heritage was real nice to make me up one.
I did drill a hole on each end cap at the back of the frame rails to allow water to drain and the inside to dry out. I am getting some rust flakes (dime and nickel size) out of these holes. If Heritage had put these holes in at the start the trailer would be in a lot better shape. As it was, there is no coating or anything inside the tubes and with the water trapped in there.... I will get a closeup of this and post in the morning but in the meantime, here are a couple of other shots. In the rear view you can see the drain holes. In all honesty there is no telling how long the trailer will last. That was my problem. It could last another 10 years for all I know. If we boat we have to trailer about 80 miles each way and in the end it is just not worth the worry. Dan |
Hi Dan,
Like the trailer...very interested and have friends in Atlanta so distance is not to great to cause an issue for me (live in Western NC). Out of curiousity, are you instested in any trades? I have a Shoreline Galvanized wobble roller drive on trailer that should handle up to 27? Deep V (trailer is approx 25' overal) that I want to get rid of and get a more "custom" trailer like yours for my 24 Deep V. Funny, I am taking it to NY this weekend to get another boat, too bad you aren't between NC and NY, we could do a swap-a-roo if we could work a deal. Let me know if there is any interest and we can go from there. If you already have another trailer I still may want to buy this one outright. PM or email contact is fine. |

Here are the close up pictures I promised. These pictues of of the worst rust areas I am aware of, but assume the rust to be all the way up the tubes. These are the drain holes that I put in the end plates to allow water etc out of the frame rails.
The suspension picture I just put in for reference as this seems to be the area that usually goes first. It looks fine on this one. Dan |
For a ten year old trailer I dont think its as bad as your making it out to be

Nothing to see here..move along...HA HA!
Dan, Check your e-mail :-) Deposit coming at ya, consider it SOLD :-) Thanks, Dave |
That's a helluva deal!
I agree with what soldier4402 said. Unless, I'm not seeing something right, it looks like the rust & paint bubbling at the holes you made is from the heat generated by the torch or drill that was used. If 928Droid backs out, I'd like to be next in line! Thanks, Travis |

Thanks, Travis This pic below from this morning will let you know there is no "next in line"... :-) Hi Dan, Thanks for the good deal, and for making everything so easy for my wife to pick it up by herself. You guys are great! She made it back at 8:30am this morning and the CIG 24 loaded up nicely, only have to make a few adjustments and it will be a perfect fit. The gloss black paint job will come this fall after the season! THANKS AGAIN!! http://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-tr...-08-33_71m.jpg |

Interesting to see that your 24 hangs off the back of a trailer that was originally for a 25' Baja! That trailer might have still been too big for my Cig 20. Just goes to show that hull length is hull length and model numbers don't mean $hit! Good luck with your Cig! |

Agree about hull lenght, I have owned a few "24s"...but I was begining to wonder if the CIG was a 26 or something...LOL... even got out the tape measure to check. I guess it has to do with these modern built in swim platforms and they measure overall lenght instead of hull lenght. Concerning trailer and rear over hang...it was a quickie first load on the trailer after a long weekend.. If you notice the bow/winch support is pretty far back, there is about 30" of movement available towards the front . I am going to loosen the u-bolts and move it forward until the transom is almost even with the rear of the trailer bunks, which is where I want it.....especially since the CIG is all motor. I could tell the hitch weight is too light on the trip home, at least or my towing tastes. Thanks again, Dave |
