What is A slip collar?

These are what slip over the Arneson spline that sticks thru the hull connecting the drive shaft U-joint to the drive.

Is a 8 and 6 the same spline? I have 1 due to be shipped tomorrow, it mates the spline to the back of the transmission, I believe it contains u joints. is this what you are talking about? I'm also looking for trim ram for a 6.
