Snap On tool box and TONS of tools...

Some of you may or may not know that I do sell Snap On for a living. Before we get started here I just want to say that these are not my tools that are for sale. A good customer recently passed away unexpectedly and his son was left the box tools. He has no need for them and they are currently being stored at my storage facility. He would like to sell this stuff off and I agreed to help him. I'm not running this thru my business nor am I making any money, just trying to help this guy out. I took some pictures of some of the stuff but nothing in great detail. If you see something you want let me know or make an offer and I will see if he accepts it. Im not sure what all is in it so if you are looking for something in particular, ask and I will see if I can find it in the box. The guy was a GM tech most of his life but did work on other stuff. I prefer that you call me with questions on this so I can look while we are on the phone and let you know. I am at my storage building on Monday's and can take calls about it then. You can call anytime but can't guarantee I will be with the tools so Mondays are best. If I don't answer, leave a message or shoot me a text. My number is 304-890-0179, the tools are located in beckley, WV 25801

Ok, on to the pics

Here is the top and bottom box, the bottom is a KRL Masters series box, it is 72" long 45" tall and 30" deep. It is one of the intimidator editions, it's dirty now but is in excellent shape. The top is a KRA series box and is also in good shape

He wants $5000 for the bottom and $1500 for the top, if the same guy buys both pieces he will do $6000 for the pair. As far as tools, I will have to ask him for pricing so let me know what you need. Also feel free to make offer on total package of box and tools and I'll see what he will do

Most of the tools appear to be, Snap On, Mac, Craftsman, etc. There is some off brand stuff mixed in but for the most part they are name brand tools.

Also in the tool business (Matco) I had a guy die about 8 years ago with the exact same box. I broke it up on E-Bay got more for it that way,, but I just bought it from the family.
Its tough because there is no way anyone could come close to replacing that for 12gs but used most people want it for 30 cents on the dollar.

At least he is close, most of the widows that call me start off with my husband had 50k in tools I only want 45k.

Damn, kind of a Catch 22. The guy that could really use a set up like that can't afford that kind of scratch and the guy that can afford it already has most of it. It looks like a good deal for all that stuff though.

Kinda what I thought. If it was mine to sell I could finance it for guys but $12,000 up front is tough to swallow. I'd say it will get parted out a little at a time. Probably get better money for it that way

If you come across a Snap On stud installation tool (with collets) let me know, Thanks and good luck!

87mag, I would think those tools woul be worth more on your truck than anywhere else. Start a used area section on your truck and run some deals. The kid might have to loosen up a bit, he can't expect to get 5gs for a bottom that is that old, with the right promo you could sell a new one for 5.

I worked as a diagnostic equipment consultant, and then the diagnostic manager for the NE with snap on for many years. Great company, but I still don't know how you independent tool dealers do it! Hats off to you

I know what you mean, just don't have the time or cash flow to take on the liability right now. It's been really tough collecting on my stuff lately let alone trying to help a third party collect. I may end up with some of it to sell but it needs sorted thru in a bad way to separate the good stuff from the junk.

The bottom box is older but is in good shape, just dirty. New price to replace the top and bottom is around $13,000 so id say he's not far off on asking price.

I understand it is a triple bank KRL box, and has a high retail, however the used market for this stuff on the street is just not worth what is it on your truck as a trade.

Take your markup off that box, promo discount when you buy it at a tool show, trade in allowance they throw in, and his asking price is getting close to your cost of a 12 year newer box. If he wants $12k total that means you will have to sell for $24k, prob not an option

Hardship is never a good thing, and we have all heard the stories of guys having $200,000 in tools. Bottom line is they rarely get the money they think they will when it comes time to sell.

I agree the best bet for this kid is to Ebay all the tools no reserve piece by piece. He might end up with his $12k just from the tools on Ebay, then he can try to sell the box local.

I shop the tools section on Craigslist every day. As long as you are a cash buyer, you can buy a lot of great tools and boxes for cheap on CL; sad but true.

Cornhole makes great tools! Good luck selling that stuff for him, the situation is difficult for all involved.

jmoore1225 09-13-2012 07:55 PM

87MagnumII 09-13-2012 07:58 PM

Yes it is and if you are in the tool business a while it comes up a lot. But if you are selling this stuff for him you have to make money.
Cornwell is the only company that is not corporate owned, and the only decent dealer contract right now. Unless like me you have been in a while and have an old agreement.

Thanks I like it . all the main tool companys are good its all about the service. I chose Cornwell because they have a pretty good dealer program and most of the hard line is made right in ohio with american steel right where I live. I personaly have almost every brand in my own box and I cant complain about any of them except S&K I cant get them warrentied
