They also have a bigger main shaft. They have many upgrades from the XR's. If you think that this is a regular Bravo with a sticker on it this isn't the drive for you.
The splash plate on the back is a option from Imco they make different ones depending on the length of your drive. This is for a -2 Imco shortie they also make one for a -1 Imco.
Nothing is cut it just gets extra holes to mount the splash plate.
This came off a 2005 boat and had very low hours not sure exactly I've had it for two years and never used it. Its a very nice drive not all scratched up or any corrosion on it.
I would easily us it I just bought a set of drives ready to go and I'm not going to use these.

As far as the upper "main shaft" being larger... There is a clutch shaft and an input shaft and they are the same size as Merc XR's.
IMCO does build nice heavy cases.

I called imco today and they rate these sc uppers at 600ft. Lbs and use xr gears with stronger cases. The scx upper is rated for 800ft. Lbs
I was also interested in this drive for myself
