I'm not interested in buying but I will say this.... Sitting in Miami at the bar in February, night before Islamorada poker run chatting it up with good friends and I just installed new engines in my Cigarette.... Had some questions and Brian AKA Sydwayz on the boards tells me I need this tool. He finds one online in 10 minutes and I hand him my CC, I go order another round he tells me it will be on my doorstep when I get home best purchase I have ever made.

Will this scan tool work on Merc 300x outboards?

Check directly with www.rinda.com ; but yes I believe you can buy the pigtail for those motors which should be about $45 bucks or so.

It is not updated for the Mercury Outboards regardless if you even get the correct adaptor. You will need the version 6 software update unless the owner of this scan has already done that. I have not read all the posts, just adding what I know. The techmate pro is the scan tool to have nowadays as it just came out a couple of months ago. Will scan everything except a few brand new models..

Correct, this scan tool is a version 5, but I also have a new version 6 available as well.
