Fresh 516CID Big Block Chevy, 625hp/650tq, Accessories, $9k OBO

I've sold my boat less engine, and haven't picked up a new boat. Now it's time to get the engine to someone else.

This is a 516 cubic inch big block Chevy marine engine equipped with Merlin heads and Dart intake, built to make 625 HP and 650 ft/lbs torque at 5200 RPM on 91/92 octane. This engine includes all of the accessories, which are ready to bolt on to make this a complete drop-in replacement engine. The first photo shown is of this engine assembled before it was installed in my boat. Subsequent photos are of it now, plus all of the accessories. The engine was given a light coat of basic engine paint to prevent rust.

This engine was in a HEAVY 1989 26' Baja. With a 1.5 drive ratio and 28p prop, it managed 75 MPH on GPS at 5200 RPM. The boat started chine walking, so I didn't push it beyond that.

This engine has been fully freshened with new rings and bearings, tanked and cleaned the block, cleaned up the bores and had the valve seats touched up. If you're are in the market for a fresh drop-in or Mercury Bravo engine swap, this is a well-built engine for the money.

The engine had 50 hours run time since it was originally built and dyno'd before being rebuilt. This engine is Gen V GM 4 bolt main block with .060 GM forged crank, forged SRP 10.2 to 1 pistons with new gap-less rings, Eagle H beam rods with ARP hardware, new Clevite 77 main and rod bearings, Moroso anti-cavitation high volume oil pump, Comp Cams custom grind roller cam with Morel high polish high-rev hydraulic lifters, 7/16 chrome moly push rods, Ferrea stainless special alloy valves, Crane wide body 1.7 gold roller rockers, Merlin oval port heads with port matched Dart single plane high rise intake, marine-grade water pump, C&S areasol 930 CFM wet custom carb, Magna Fuel pressure regulator, high-flow flame arrestor. HEI Ignition with MSD wires, Polished aluminum valve covers with billet breathers (could use a bit of touch-up polishing before bolting on) vented to a vapor recovery tank and lines (also included), and polished aluminum crank and water pump pulleys. Built to produce peak power at 5200.

As mentioned, this engine comes with all accessories, brackets and hardware (bagged and labeled), listed as follows: raw water pump that was (rebuilt within the last 10 hours), alternator, high-torque starter, power steering pump, oil/hydraulic fluid cooler, remote oil filter, stainless braided -12 AN lines, and standard Mercury round connector wiring harness. I also have a flex plate for a Bravo trans and a custom fabricated engine mount to bolt to the stringers, if you can use them. All the engine needs are spark plugs and exhaust manifolds.

The engine can be picked up just west of Seattle, or I can crate and ship at buyer’s expense. I can also deliver the engine in western Washington for a small fee, depending on distance.

I have about $13k in the original cost of the engine and rebuild. Asking $9,000.00 OBO plus crate/freight costs if shipped.

This engine was originally purchased here on OSO from Brad Harbold (Btharbold), when he de-rigged his Scarab in June of 2012. I've attached the original dyno sheet for this engine, courtesy of Brian of Orlandi Performance (brian41) who built this and a matching engine for Brad's Scarab (see post #2).

Here’s a link to one of the pair of engines that this was a part of running prior to being pulled from Brad's boat: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Daj7L1YBJ4

I have never heard of gap-less rings.

Strong, fresh engine at a reasonable price.

Reasonable offers welcome on this engine. Need the room in my shop!

This engine was a solid deal when I bought it used at $8,500. Get it completely freshened with zero hours and all accessories except exhaust manifolds for the same price!
