No, I wish I had taken pics when they were apart. But, there are not any vertical shafts, all of the drop is done by 5 sets of straight cut gears going from the input shaft and dropping all the way down to the last set at the prop shaft height.

Ok got ya that's what I thought. you can kinda see the bulges in the case at the bearing support areas. thus no 90* right angles. why did you open them up? to change gear ration to match your wheels? thanks

also how is the reverse rotation accomplished

302Sport 10-15-2015 12:12 PM

Yes you are correct, the bulges in the case are for clearance of the bearing support areas. I opened them up to check everything out before putting on the boat. The reverse rotation is done in the drop boxes (the counter rotator is a 2 gear, the straight is a 3 gear) which are housed in the extension boxes or you can run them off the back of a transmission if you have the room in the bilge. The drop boxes are also quick change, so you can run whatever ratio you would like without pulling the drive apart.

Adam, So no chains at all. Now IC how Pat set them up. Are the gears about 3inches wide along the cutting edge and have about a 3.5 inch diameter. Who is cutting them for WD? knot Caslle by chance? what weight oil do the like? thanks

u b on the up coming Conn River Run or the Hudson or both?

302Sport 10-15-2015 08:29 PM

No chains, Pat says chains are for tractors. Yes the gears are about that size and I think Pat is cutting his own. The drives run Mobil 1 75-90 gear oil. I will be doing the CT River run on Sunday.
