Baja,
Still working on the war department on spending the money on the replacement outdrive. Still hopeful, though.
If you're in immediate need, I probably won't be of any use to you. Even if we were ready to pull the trigger, we'd still have to wait on AADS to build us the replacement drive, which we obviously haven't initiated.
If you're looking for a back-up, and have some time, it will definitely be of some leverage on my end, in the conversation across the breakfast table over whether or not to actually make the upgrade. Let me know.
I started this thread kind of looking for a market value for the drive. I've obviously not really gotten any real advice on that here, but I've since made some phone calls and have a pretty good idea where I'd need to be. As initially stated, this is a swap-ready drive, in really good shape, not a rebuildable core.
I have a standing offer from Hilltop Marine at Lake Cumberland, who would do the swap if/when we move forward, to broker the drive to the first customer in need, should we move forward, and he expects to fetch around $4500 (half of new price), if/when that customer comes along.
You are free to make an offer in the mean time.
Thanks. Brad.

Brad, your overthinking IMO, just run the one you have until it quits. It may be a year from now, it may be 8. You say family, so when ya say that, I think a conservative wife and kids of who knows what ages.
I doubt you're going to hang that boat out and stress the drive too much with them on board.
Curious, does just the drive have 145 hours or the whole boat?
Lastly, doesn't AADS have some kind of exchange ordeal? Send them yours, get the modified one.

Cheech,
I hear ya. But….
Two reasons….
First, it’s a lot lower net cost if I buy a drive outright, then sell my drive swap-ready. I’ve already got a price for the rebuilt “new” drive from AADS, and a swap-ready drive is obviously WAY more valuable than a rebuildable core.
Second, I’d really like to not be stranded 30mi up the South Fork on Cumberland, with a sheared gear shaft, or whatever decides to give up. And I know my luck….
I don’t really intend to hammer the boat, even when it’s just the wife and I (or even the boys and I). There are definitely going to be times when the urge will hit, and I’ll likely answer that urge. I don’t ever intend to air the boat out, so there’s zero risk of landing it tached out. But, we do intend to use it as a ski boat (I rode a slalom behind my dad’s 27’ SeaRay, and my wife learned to ski behind it, at almost 1000lbs heavier and half the HP), and I know that puts a fair bit of strain on the systems. I’d just like to get ahead of it if I can.
The boat has about 153 hrs on it now. We bought it at 141.
Thanks. Brad.

I really want you to get your modified drive.
First point I get.
Second, meh, Marine Assist is only 95 bucks a year. Stranded only shortly on Cumberland.
Otherwise the consignment ordeal, price wise with Hilltop is in line in IMO.
