Those have been painted. The original ones were chrome plated. One set of mine were peeling, so I ground off the plating and painted them with "Chrome Paint" I saw a cool trick on a motor the other day, the guy took some clear rubber hose and split them lengthwise and zip tied them to the inside of the rings to avoid maring the surface.

These were not chrome originally These were from the factory, the first color match specific 500efis mercury made special for Cigarette and the Playboy boat.
