Please Fix smokin' gun's account!!!
 

Gordon, smokin' gun has been a member here for years and is an asset to this community. On 11-13-2013 someone else joined the site as SMOKIN GUN which differs only by the capitol letters and the missing apostrophe. sine then smokin' gun (Gordon's) account has been screwed up.

You can not pm him by clicking on his name, if you do click on his name it takes you to the wrong account SMOKIN GUN who is a different person all together. This needs to be fixed!! He as well as myself have contacted OSO on multiple occasions about this matter and nothing has been done.

He himself can not view his profile, friends, contacts or posts through his account. It always takes you to the other person. Please advise as to how this can be fixed!!!

Nothing gets fixed by the higher ups. I've been threatened etc nothing. Oh well

This is due to a software glitch. Regardless of the resolution, the handle Smokin' Gun is going to have issues if he keeps using it -- it's the apostrope that's the problem. It happens from time to time and can't be fixed.

He has used this name since 2007 I think. Why is there a problem now?

It's the introduction of the new handle that caused the problem.

Before you ask: deleting the new handle does not fix it. The only way to fix is to remove the apostrophe from Smokin'.

And that will seperate the two accounts and all will be fixed even though the only difference in the names will then be the fact that one is all caps and one is not?

No. VB does not see caps, and two names cannot be the same obviously. One of them has to change.

So then the person that just started the account a few months ago should be made to change.

Well, how does it work then? The guy who has been a VALUED PAYING member for years just gets screwed over? Seems like a crock to me. I would think you guys would want to address issues like this rather than ignore them and drive people to use other powerboating websites since they are having trouble here and are being overlooked as if they are unimportant.

Check with him to see if its been fixed. I can't find another SMOKIN GUN screen name other than his.

I am waiting to hear back from him. I can now view his profile which I could not do before. Hopefully this is taken care of!

I explained it above. I can't explain it any clearer than that. There is a bug with the system. Could happen to anyone.

As you can see in this thread, nobody ignored anything. There was immediate reply from me, and plenty of emails and technical inquiries behind the scenes to address this, which you do not see. What method did he and you use to try to contact OSO? Did you PM an administrator or mod, or use the Contact Us link at the bottom of the screen? Or report the issue here in the technical issues forum? I have not see anything until 12/12.

At any rate, the lead mod has asked the other user to change his name, as I stated above, and it's fixed. But since smokin' gun did not have his apostrophe removed, there's no guarantee it won't happen again. That's the only way to bug-proof your username. Anything other than letters and numbers, and it could get buggy.
