Boat trailer suggestions
 

Any suggestions on what to look for in a good boat trailer, what the good brands are and the best place to get one around here?

Alum. vs steel?
Torsion axles vs. leaf springs?
Discs vs. drums?
Surge brakes vs. electric?

It would be for a 26' boat around 6,200# to 6,500# w/full fuel (92 gallons) and gear.

If you plan on getting into salt, then you deffinately want to stay away from steel. If not, either will be fine.

Torsion axles are a much better option.

I would also go disk brakes.

I have always has surge brakes, but I also like some of the benefits of electric over hydraulic. I think if I were to buy a new trailer, I would give the E/H a try. I think this choice is going to be more personal preference rather than what is best in my opinion.

Also consider just how much trailering you will be doing. Let us get back from Emerald Coast Poker Run and we can get a list of places to look.

The primary use of the trailer would be over the highway hauling. I would like to be able to go to more events and explore a little.

Boat trailer bill http://www.boatrailerbill.com in KY quoted around $5,500 for an aluminum twin axle with torsion axles, LED lights and disc brakes.

I have not been able to turn up a used trailer to date.

I've got a Prestige Trailer and they are located in Southern ILL. They can tell you of a dealer near by. Diffenitely go with torsion axles and stainless disk brakes. I'm going to convert mine to disk next year.
