Cooper Truck Tires.
Been running Cooper Discoverer A/Ts for going on 2 years now with about 21K miles on the tires. Destroyed one yesterday, and now looking into new tires. It seems as though the Discoverer A/T is now the A/TR with a new tread pattern, so replacing one tire is not easy or feasable.
Anyone seen these out on the street yet? Cooper Discoverer STT http://www.coopertire.com/us/en/Prod...ht+Truck+Tires http://www.coopertire.com/us/en/imag...overerSTT2.jpg |
Re: Cooper Truck Tires.
Cooper makes a good tire, and I'm a bit of a tire snob. Looks like you want an aggressive tire, so my next suggestion may not be right for you, but look at Bridgestone's Revo. It is also a good tire manufacturer, and possibly the best all around truck tire today. Good tread voids, wonderful snow traction, and surprisingly quite. I've had Cooper's and liked them, but the Revo is the best I've ever had.

Re: Cooper Truck Tires.
Talked to a couple folks and the STT pictured above is really made for a lot of mudding. Those open and no interlocking lugs allow for a squishy feel especially when towing. (Had same problem with some Goodyear's sometime back.) I am hoping to replace the tire I blew with an identical one, but may for a new set of Cooper Discoverer A/TR with is the update of the A/T I have now. May even splurge extra $200 on BFG AT KO.

Re: Cooper Truck Tires.
I sell alot of truck tires, Personal preference is Bridgestone AT's, and on my truck right now(04 ford f250 s/d harley edition) is the 365/65r16 Toyo AT open countrys(because of the size/looks)

Dueler Revo ;)
I put the latest gen Firestone Firehawk Z50 on the Corvette I had also. This is an extreme perf sports car tire built sharing constuction and compound technology, UNI-T they call it. Those too were unbelievable tires. Firestone/Bridgestone builds some excellent high line tires! |
Re: Cooper Truck Tires.
Brian,
I'm running Dunlop Radial Rovers (255/85 R16) on my GMC 3500 Dually. They have a similar tread to the Cooper in your picture but I've never noticed any "squishiness" when towing my Sonic. I have about 15K on the tires with a lot of tread left. Good luck with your search... |
Re: Cooper Truck Tires.
good to hear about those revo's just put 6 of them on a 2001 f-350 will let you my thought after a while...bz

Re: Cooper Truck Tires.
I went with Nitto Terra Grapplers and 18x9 IceMetal wheels. They should be installed by the weekend.

Re: Cooper Truck Tires.
Those will look killer, pretty much the same tire as I put on my S/Duty (toyos version) and so far I've been happy, they are actually alot quieter than the goodyears I took off the truck.

Re: Cooper Truck Tires.
BF Goodrich TA's are the only tire I will run. I live in Upstate NY, so I need something aggressive during the winter. My last set of 315/70 17's lasted for 64,000 miles rotating them every oil change. There was absolutely no tread when I replaced them, but they were a great set with long life. Spend the money. :drink:

Re: Cooper Truck Tires.
I bought 4 Firestone Destination LE tires for my Ram 1500. They have about 8000 miles on them. The fronts are like new yet, however the rears are almost bald. I'm not spinning them, I believe its from towing the boat. Any suggestions on a tire that wears better ? I'm not using it for off road use so I really don't want a noisy aggressive tire.

Re: Cooper Truck Tires.
I would have gone with BFGoodrich AT/KO, but I have been waiting for over a year for their 18" tire to come out, to no avail. They have 1000 sets on backorder, and have yet to produce a single tire.
http://www.bfgoodrichtires.com/asset...rain_ta_kd.pdf They have had their 17" tire out for a while, originally designed as OEM for the H2. I wish they had the 18" ready. It would sell VERY well. |
Re: Cooper Truck Tires.

Re: Cooper Truck Tires.
New wheel and tire combo does not fit. Pretty disappointed. Looking at new options now. Lift? New wheel/tire choice? I dunno.

Re: Cooper Truck Tires.

Re: Cooper Truck Tires.
They don't make a specific body lift for the 2500 Avalanche. Most are using a 2500 Suburban lift. However, some have (per the www.chevyavalanchefanflub.com website) issues with their airbag light coming on after the lift, as in something being dorked up when the front bumper is moved, and the spare tire winch tube has a conflict in reaching the bumper after a body lift. Also, after the body lift, you have extended your shocks so you don't have so much downward travel anymore. Not so good. So, by the time I invest in new shocks, custom fab work for the bumper mounts, the body lift, and install, I may just go for a suspension lift. I dunno, way to many options, and I did not want to take it this far.

Re: Cooper Truck Tires.
what size nitto's?
would they not fit for height or width? or is it the 18' rims? |
Re: Cooper Truck Tires.
18" Rims combined with the 4.5" backspacing, very squared 285 Nitto Tires, and the small wheel wells of the AV, means no fit without heavy cutting or lifting. :( Rich took them and put them on his truck.
