F650 pickup or C4500
Does anyone have anyinput on either of F650 or C4500.I dont really need either one,but it is time for a new dually and I want something a Little Different.I like the F650 with air ride cab and of course air seats and brakes.C4500 is available in 4x4 2005.Icurrently have a f350 and a f650 dump truck with 18`bed I drive almost daily for work.My wife thinks I am f--king nuts, but hey my 28 skater sure would look good behind one of these. :D

Re: F650 pickup or C4500
I pull a 44 MTI with a 05 C4500, Air ride suspenson and seats, also installed a adjustable chip. I absolutley love this set up! pulls boat very well and I feel safe. Honestly my wife loves to drive this truck when not hooked to the boat.

Re: F650 pickup or C4500
Not to bag on the 4500, but like the F450/F550, you just get the PU stroke or Dmax- the 650 is more truck and offers more engine options. The PU engines are kinda working hard just moving the bigger truck. (My mild 3500 Dodge smokes my toter towing- just due to weight)
To be happy, it's all how you spec it out- gearing is grucial or you'll be redline at 65 mph. I've got an FL70toter with a 3126 which is an "OK" oil burner, but it has tall rubber and 3.90's so OTR towing is nice, 76 at 2k and tops out (goverened) at 85 Resal is better on the bigger trucks too, but they are kinda one dimensional. A small toter can qualify as an RV which is nice for ins and taxes |
Re: F650 pickup or C4500
I am a die hard ford guy. but if i had a choice it would have to be a c-4500. i can't believe i am publicly admitting it but it is true. the c-4500 is a sweet truck

Re: F650 pickup or C4500
I have driven both trucks and there is no comparison the F 650 is the king hands down. But it is also 2 times the price. So you get twice the truck you know. They are hot trucks if I have a hundy lying around I would be profiling in a F 650. They ride well and they tow well with the cat in it and you can do a chip and exhaust for a little more performance. They dont have the power upgrades that the duramax, cummins or powerstroke have but a very nice truck.

Re: F650 pickup or C4500
Looked at an F650 p/up conversion during biketoberfest in Daytona last weekend,,very cool truck, for the nominal price of 82 GRAND on sale.....damn, thats gonna hurt...and I drove one of the navistar conversion p/ups...parking sux to say the least, but the attention factor was way cool.

Re: F650 pickup or C4500
Spent alot of time in 4500 GMC Roll-Backs...Rode nice but I think they are underpowered for heavy use. A car on the bed & one behind the Duramax was grunting...F-650 Cat or Cummins for me.
I think a F-550 is closer to the 4500 |
Re: F650 pickup or C4500

Re: F650 pickup or C4500
The F-650 is a much better option than one of the max-duty pickups but if you're getting into the world of mediums, you should be comparing apples to apples. A 650 is competitive with a Freightliner FL60 or an International 4600. In this class, 80% of what you see on the road is International and then the Freightliner. Pete and KW are the high end but pricey. What I don't care for in the 650 and the GMC as well is the short cab height. These things bounce a bit more than a pickup. I'm 6'1" and with 3 bad discs in my neck, the last thing I need is to have the top of my head jammed into the roof of the truck on a larger bump.
In mediums the big issue is motor selection. The Cat is a good motor but their parts are very expensive and its the loudest motor of the bunch. Most powerful out of the box with the broadest power options available. I have mixed feelings on the Cummins. The small motors have a durability issue. The International 466 is the quietest but I don't believe it's available over 210 hp. When you're comparing motors, keep in mind that torque moves trucks. My 250 horse Cat has 800 lb torque. My 6.0 Excursion has 100 Hp more but couldn't pull 1/3rd the load of the cat. I've had the Apache on the Ex and it's like the truck is chained to a large building. I don't even feel it with the FL70 One of the biggest reasons to own a "real" truck is 24 hour service from dealers and Cat, if your truck is so equipped. Also, the emergency road service guys carry parts for them. The Ford or GMC might mean waiting until the following Monday and/or a long-distance tow to a big city with a meduim dealer |
