As for me I have a F350 with the TowBoss package, with that you get the same rating as the 450. With my old 350 I towed well over 20,000 with no problems (with nice trailer breaks of course).. The new truck has bigger breaks, lower gears, and a stronger motor. Though with the low gears miliage will be lower, but any of them will pull. I would think that if you were driving this truck a lot any one of the fords would be better. Like already stated above, the topkick is a big truck, so not sure if it would be fun to drive a lot.

As far as 4x4 goes. well the one time you really need it, it has paid for it's self. Well ok maybe by the second or third but you know what I mean. I don't think the option is that much more, and it doesn't seem to affect miliage that much. I wouldn't own one without 4x4.
I've seen where the new F350 is rated for 15K at the hitch and 18K fifth wheel. Is that standard or with the Tow Boss package. And what is the Tow Boss package.

15k is standard with crew cab/dually/4x4/auto...
18k is fifth wheel with 4.30 gear (tow boss package)... 15,600 with 4.10

i would stay away from the 4.30 gear if you are gonna drive it everyday...

the tow boss package also up's the gcwr from 23500 to 26000...

Here is the thing it is totally a 2nd truck< I have a car from work so it is only used to pull the boat, have a lift on Lake Mich, but the boat goes to poker runs loto ect. Also the truck is used to launch the boat so the ramps used are a issue...the bigger size of the Top Kick is not an issue but it looks like the F550 is winning or is it that nobody is running a Top Kick to give an opinion????

P.S. like everyone I am planning ahead for a bigger boat LOL

What do you think they put in the TopKick??? Same engine options with the Cat and you can get a manual or an Allison in both.

42MTI the tow boss package is an upgraded hitch, (tow rating of 15,000lbs class V hitch), 4.30 gears (which is an option on the 450). I also believe the brakes are bigger. Like Sean said higher GVWR. I have 9000 miles on mine and if I drive it normal and stay out of the pedal i get around 17mpg. on average though I see 15.5....towing it goes down.

Jordy around here most of the topkicks sitting on the lots have the d-max and allison, not the bigger industrial motors. I am also not sure because the web page won't pull up but I think the standard engine in the 650 is a big cummins not the 6.0. Though I guess most would order this truck so engine choice could be the same...

A nice thing about the TopKick is last i heard you can get it 4x4 where the 650 isn't (could be wrong on this)

650 comes with 6.0 PSD, 5.9 cummins or 7.2 CAT....

For what its worth I have two 4500 top kicks I looked at the ford .It dose not compare we pull a 46 ft gouse neck trailer and my race boat wied open every where we go. there is more room in the top kick my partner went the other rote with the 550 two wheel drive the rear end is only oferd with a 513 gear. at 85 pulling a26 ft scarab the trains over heats it has had for of them within a year .
